Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general supervision of the Director of Laboratory, the Supervisor coordinates and supervises laboratory activities within assigned areas in a manner designed to increase work efficiency and accuracy. Also, provides clinical laboratory services to patients in accordance with accepted practices and Departmental and Hospital standards of care.

  • Supportive of the ethics and compliance programs set forth by HCA demonstrated by:
  • Upholds code of conduct.
  • Adheres to dealing appropriately and fairly with employee misconduct.
  • Enforces all ethics and compliance policies as they pertain to his/her area.
  • Provides and assures ethics and compliance education as requested by the ECO and/or corporate initiative.
  • Sets an example to all staff in their daily activities.
  • Responsible for training and evaluating staff on the overall code of conduct and specific policies and procedures that affect department specific responsibilities (examples may include but not limited to PEPP, medical necessity, lab compliance, billing and coding).
  • If an ethics and compliance issue is identified, takes appropriate action to correct and/or report any violation that he/she is aware of in the department or the facility
  • Directs daily activities of assigned area to insure that assigned work is performed promptly, efficiently and accurately.
  • Assists with expense control through shift scheduling, supply purchases, and capital purchases.
  • Consults with and assists Technologists with difficult analyses.
  • Will support Laboratory and Hospital policies while encouraging the same from laboratory staff.
  • Reviews, writes and updates technical procedure manuals.
  • Assists in data collection for statistical surveys or other reports generated by the Department.
  • Participates in quality control and performance improvement activities within the Department.
  • Maintains a good understanding of the operation of all equipment in the performance of clinical laboratory testing to include trouble-shooting and minor repair.
  • Facilitates communication between the Laboratory and members of the Medical Staff and other Hospital Departments to enhance patient care services.
  • Coordinates clinical laboratory service scheduling with applicable Hospital Departments and Medical Staff for maximum utilization of resources and maintenance of quality care.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of Section supplies.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan as appropriate.
  • Supports physician partnership development between physician and service areas.
  • Assumes leadership role to enhance financial strength of Conroe Regional Medical Center.
  • Assures compliance with the completion of employee evaluation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Director of Laboratory.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Must have completed Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology or related Science Field and hold Medical Technologist credentials from a recognized credentialing agency.
  • Must have a minimum of five years previous experience in a medical laboratory with a hospital setting preferred.
