Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

The Civil Engineer II will consult with the VP of Engineering, project managers, field service, sales, construction, production, and service personnel to obtain a clear vision of the project or equipment to be designed. This position provides technical leadership in civil engineering, independently conducting and assisting with design, development, implementation, and analysis of equipment structure, site layouts, foundations, utilities, drainage, and other civil works required to support Fulghum's forest product equipment installations, components and systems. This position also coordinates with clients, customers, and vendors on civil engineering aspects of projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Applies advanced and diversified knowledge of civil engineering principles in site, component and equipment design
Performs computations, analysis, and modeling for foundations, drainage, grading, utilities, and related civil structures
Develops creative new or improved civil designs, methods, or processes supporting industrial equipment installations
Works directly with Engineering, Manufacturing, Construction, and Field Service to resolve issues with new and existing products
Performs research and investigations pertaining to civil works, site conditions, and component design failures
Detail-oriented approach to civil design, drawing accuracy, including BOM, and creation of Requisitions
Conduct site visits to gather survey data, verify design conditions, and assist with problem-solving, and verify compliance with design intent
Prepares project documentation, material testing, drawings, and CAD work for civil components
Provides technical expertise and develops methodological solutions to complex civil engineering problems, requiring independent analytical thinking
Develops specialized knowledge of civil engineering principles, including site grading, drainage, utilities, foundations, and other structural design
Builds professional skills through continued training, education and networking events
Works independently or within a team to design and detail assemblies from general verbal instructions, sketches, or existing models
Assist in technical writing for Operation, Maintenance, and Safety manuals of the equipment
Mentor junior engineers and designers on civil engineering design practices and project workflows

QUALIFICATIONS AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited US college or university
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience applying knowledge of civil engineering principles, preferably in industrial or heavy equipment projects
Professional knowledge in SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and familiarity with PDM
Ability to apply surveying and geotechnical data gathering techniques
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including technical writing
Familiarity with GT STRUDL
Strong communications skills, both verbal and written
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
