Job Description
The JUNIOR DESIGN ENGINEER works under the general supervision of a Professional Engineer and Lead Design Engineer. The Junior Design Engineer will perform inspections and prepare simple designs and technical details. This position is the entry level position for professional engineers.
  • Performs routine computer-aided design and drafting tasks for land development and infrastructure projects.
  • Prepares preliminary conceptual layouts, computation of quantities and designs for simple engineering projects.
  • Prepares engineering design computations and analysis as necessary to design, and prepare engineering plans, reports and studies.
  • Assists in the preparation of contract documents, specifications and plans for bidding.
  • Inspects minor construction and maintenance work for compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Site visits to make field measurements and observe project site in preparation for concept and design phase.
  • Computes and checks estimates based on observations for determining payments to contractors and prepares progress reports.

Job Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering.
  • EIT preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate in English with internal and external clients.
  • Regularly spend long hours sitting and using office equipment and computers.
  • Able to read and interpret plans and specifications.
  • Able to make engineering design computations and check, design, and prepare engineering plans and studies.
  • Able to perform mathematical computations as applied to engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of the methods and equipment used in construction.
  • Ability to perform designing and drafting assignments.
  • Ability to interpret specification and contract essentials.
  • Working knowledge of CAD and Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience with Autodesk Civil 3D or Microstation OpenRoads preferred
  • Valid Driver's License- Must be insurable by fleet insurer; driving history will be reviewed by agent and underwriter
  • The ability to work a regular schedule of 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM Monday through Thursday and 7:30 AM - 12:00 PM Friday
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with OSHA guidelines and directives, in conjunction with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Regularly work on repetitive tasks.
  • Regularly use hands and fingers to handle, control, or feel objects.
