Job description

Jewish Community Security Inc. has an immediate opening for a Security Coordinator (Day Shift).ย  Reporting to the Community-Wide Deputy Security Director, the officers will be assigned to The Jewish Federation of Detroit, Jewish Day Schools and/or Summer Camp Programs year-round.ย 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
โ€ขย ย  ย Monitor agency/school/camp facilities (e.g. grounds, buildings, parking lot) for the purpose of providing visibility, maintaining security, and deterring crime.
โ€ขย ย  ย Provide an armed (concealed) response capability, respond to unusual or emergency situations and take appropriate and reasonable action to ensure the security and safety of students, campers, visitors, staff, and property. ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Deliver a security presence during staff and/or studentsโ€™ arrival, recess, and dismissal.
โ€ขย ย  ย Observe and report activities, incidents and suspicious activity; maintain accurate records and reports.
โ€ขย ย  ย Direct traffic in the parking lots when needed and maintain parking enforcement when needed.
โ€ขย ย  ย Preserve order and act to ensure regulations and directives for the site pertaining to students, campers, staff, visitors and premises are followed.
โ€ขย ย  ย Monitor entrances and exits, prevent unapproved or unlawful entry, control the movement of people, vehicles, and parking.
โ€ขย ย  ย Maintain proficiency in the use of all assigned protective equipment, weapons, and life saving devices.
โ€ขย ย  ย Operate and monitor CCTV camera system and access control.
โ€ขย ย  ย Respond to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, intruder, active threats, flooding, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather and other incidents. ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Notify police, fire department, or appropriate authorities of situations requiring immediate attention.
โ€ขย ย  ย Confront and/or challenge unauthorized persons on school property for questioning.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Investigate and report security and safety violations that occur on the campus.
โ€ขย ย  ย Coordinate and/or provide security for special events or functions, at the request of the Principal, Executive Director, Deputy Director of Community-Wide Security, or Director of Community-Wide Security.
โ€ขย ย  ย Create a positive working relationship with the community in which you are assigned.
โ€ขย ย  ย Plan and conduct staff and student informational and training sessions.
โ€ขย ย  ย Plan and conduct emergency drills.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Maintain information on best practices relative to security.
โ€ขย ย  ย Develop, maintain, and update campus safety & emergency procedures, EOPโ€™s, post orders and policies.
โ€ขย ย  ย Evaluate security program on a continuing basis and recommend changes as needed.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Foster positive relationship with local law enforcement.
โ€ขย ย  ย Assignment location may change as needed. ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Oversee contract guards while working events, JCC or summer camp and report all misconduct, tardiness, etc. to the Deputy Director of Community Wide Security.
โ€ขย ย  ย Assist with community security projects and training.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
โ€ขย ย  ย Minimum of five (5) years of prior law enforcement or investigation.
โ€ขย ย  ย Excellent leadership, human relations, communication, and interpersonal skills. ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to maintain a safe, secure and crime free environment while not interfering with the day-to-day operations of the agency, school, or camp facility.
โ€ขย ย  ย Demonstrate strong judgment and decision-making skills in crisis situations.
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English with school personnel, students, parents, law enforcement, and campus staff.
โ€ขย ย  ย With or without reasonable accommodation, physical and mental requirements of this job may include the following: ย Mental alertness, seeing, hearing and speaking and writing clearly, occasional reaching and pulling with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, frequent sitting, standing and walking for long periods of time, will include climbing stairs, ladders, walking up inclines and on uneven terrain. ย May include the frequent lifting and moving up to 15 pounds and occasional lifting and/or moving up to 30 pounds.
โ€ขย ย  ย Organizational and planning skills.
โ€ขย ย  ย Detail oriented and dependable.
โ€ขย ย  ย Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
โ€ขย ย  ย Positive attitude, relationship builder, team player and strong work ethic.
โ€ขย ย  ย Ability to write detailed and accurate reports in English a clear and concise manner with good grammar and spelling.
โ€ขย ย  ย Able to work occasional evenings and weekends when events are held, or if job assignment/position requires it.ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Sensitivity to and respect for the Jewish faith and related practice.

PREFERRED SKILLS

โ€ขย ย  ย Associate degreeย 
โ€ขย ย  ย The preferred candidate would be a retired Michigan law enforcement officer in good standing possessing a Michigan CPL, exempt from pistol free zones. ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Security/Law Enforcement experience in a school environment (SRO, DARE).ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย All other job requirements being satisfied, this candidate would be more likely to possess an intimate familiarity of firearms and their operation as well as strong use-of-force decision making skills. ย 
โ€ขย ย  ย Advanced course work at the college level in security/law enforcement.
โ€ขย ย  ย Prior supervisory experience.
โ€ขย ย  ย CPR/First Aid certification preferred but not required.
โ€ขย ย  ย Demonstrated training background.
โ€ขย ย  ย Experience with CCTV and alarm systems.

The successful candidate will be required to pass both a medical and psychological โ€œFit for Dutyโ€ examination, drug and alcohol screening, and firearms qualification as a condition of employment.ย 
This candidate would also have a work history available for review that would demonstrate their training, decision making, and judgment, while working armed.ย 

There will be no smoking and uses of tobacco products in the Federation facilities.
