Job description

Job Description

This position facilitates clear verbal/written communication between Japanese associates/managers/visitors/guests and US associates/managers/visitors/guests to improve business, production, quality, etc.

Essential Functions
  1. Performs the translating/interpreting jobs assigned by the immediate supervisor.
  2. Reports to the immediate supervisor about work schedule and progress.
  3. Translates documents into English/Japanese for presentations, meetings, reports, investigation, etc.
  4. Translates technical documents with support from the person in charge.
  5. Interprets communication between Japanese associates/managers/visitors/guests and US associates/managers/visitors/guests in the office or on the production floor, in meetings, in conference calls, in business trips, etc.
  6. Translates and interprets daily activities such as e-mails, letters, phone calls, etc.
Other Functions
  1. Interprets/translates for other departments, if necessary.
  2. Interprets for our guests, customers, suppliers, and others.
  3. Interacts with the immediate supervisor to discuss issues, if any.
  4. Performs other duties as assigned.
RequirementsEducation

Bachelorโ€™s or Associateโ€™s degree (Preferred) or 1-3 years of relevant experience.

Experience

This position would prefer to have basic manufacturing knowledge and understanding of manufacturing and engineering terminologies.

Skills
  • Fluent / understandable verbal interpretation from English to Japanese and vice versa
  • Ability to translate engineering / production-related / legal documents clearly and accurately from English to Japanese and vice versa
  • Ability to interpret in meetings without seeing presentation materials beforehand
  • Simultaneous or consecutive interpretation with sufficient speed and accuracy
  • Sufficient voice volume to interpret in large meetings and on the production floor
  • Good interpersonal, time-management, organizational, project tracking, and multi-tasking skills
  • Computer, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a climate-controlled office, plant / facility / floor operations, walk on concrete floors, lift up to 30 pounds, perform repetitive keystrokes on a continual basis, and occasional bending, twisting, reaching. Also requires occasionally working before or past normal work hours to complete work assignments as needed or to participate in meetings with different time zones.
