Job description

About Rivian

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. This goes for the emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles we build, and the curious, courageous souls we seek to attract.

As a company, we constantly challenge what’s possible, never simply accepting what has always been done. We reframe old problems, seek new solutions and operate comfortably in areas that are unknown. Our backgrounds are diverse, but our team shares a love of the outdoors and a desire to protect it for future generations.

Role Summary

As a Project Manager, Supplier Operations & Compliance, you will serve as the operational cornerstone for supplier performance, compliance, process design, and systems enablement. Located on-site at our manufacturing facility in Normal, IL, you will own the end-to-end framework that guarantees our suppliers are trained, compliant, and operating smoothly within the Rivian ecosystem.

Your mission centers on two priorities: cultivating exceptional supplier experience and driving internal operational excellence. Externally, you will serve as the champion for supplier success – guiding suppliers through seamless onboarding, clear systems and process training, answering inquiries, overseeing shipping and delivery compliance, and facilitating on-time payments through invoice compliance. Internally, you will leverage this alignment to protect production, ensuring seamless execution across shipping, receiving, dock handling, and ultimately material delivery to the production line.

You will also act as a project manager, partnering with internal cross-functional stakeholders and IT/Systems teams to align business processes with system capabilities, eliminating duplicate efforts, and scaling operational execution. This role is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports to a Manager, Supply Chain Operations.

Responsibilities

Supplier Compliance, Performance & Governance

  • Own and drive the Supplier Compliance & Scorecard Framework, establishing clear expectations, monitoring supplier performance, and managing the Chargeback and supplier corrective action programs.
  • Develop, document, and maintain clear, standardized standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines for all supplier-facing supply chain requirements.
  • Proactively resolve delivery and logistics friction points by driving programs such as In-Transit ASN Resolution (solving errors pre-delivery to eliminate dock bottlenecks).
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive supplier performance framework, utilizing proactive and reactive KPI metrics to drive operational excellence, identify root causes, and guide continuous improvement initiatives.

Supplier Enablement & Training

  • Design and execute end-to-end Supplier Onboarding and Training Programs, building out a centralized Training Library and supporting the coordination of regular webinars, mass communications, and feedback surveys.
  • Lead targeted supplier retraining programs based on root-cause analyses of recurring shipment, system, or invoicing discrepancies.
  • Serve as an operational escalation point for daily supplier troubleshooting.

Internal Partnership & Process Optimization

  • Project manage internal systems alignment initiatives—collaborating with IT, Business Systems, and Supply Chain Analytics teams to ensure enterprise tools support operational workflows.
  • Support cross-functional training sessions for internal Material Planning, Logistics, Quality, and Purchasing teams to streamline alignment, clarify requirements, and eliminate duplicative tasks.
  • Support internal Rivian warehouse receiving training - process and systems, and drive the Receiving Discrepancy program.
  • Partner across departments to ensure invoice compliance, directly improving procure-to-pay cycle times and maintaining strong supplier relationships.

Qualifications
  • Experience: 4–7+ years of progressive experience in Supply Chain Operations, Supplier Performance, Logistics, or Procure-to-Pay functions (preferably within automotive or high-volume advanced manufacturing environments).
  • On-Site Requirement: Willingness and capability to work 5 days per week at the manufacturing plant in Normal, IL. Day shift - 7:30am-4:30PM.
  • Systems Expertise: Hands-on experience with ERP systems (specifically SAP) and integrated supplier portals/EDI. Familiarity with eKanban systems and receiving workflows is preferred.
  • Project Management & Alignment: Proven track record of managing cross-functional initiatives between business users and technical IT/systems teams to refine processes and drive system enhancements.
  • Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Strong capability in root-cause analysis (8D, SCAR processes) and data-driven performance tracking. Advanced proficiency in Excel; experience Databricks, developing reporting that provides business insights.
  • Communication & Facilitation: Exceptional communication skills with demonstrated experience building training curriculum, hosting webinars, leading supplier reviews, and driving alignment across executive and shop-floor partners.
  • Adaptability: A self-starter with high accountability who thrives in a fast-paced environment and possesses the operational agility to drive both routine execution and ad-hoc strategic programs.
