System and Solutions Engineer

MDM Headquarters - Ponte Vedra Beach, FL 32082

Description

Department: Professional Services Job Title: Systems and Solutions Engineer Reporting to: Executive Vice President, Operations and Strategic Initiatives FLSA Status: Salaried/Exempt

Job Summary: The Systems and Solutions Engineer is a hands-on technical contributor within the MDM Commercial Professional Services team, responsible for designing, supporting, and sustaining both legacy and modern video delivery solutions across healthcare, hospitality, and commercial environments. This role serves as a critical technical anchor for longstanding client deployments, with deep responsibility for legacy RF-based video distribution systems, Z-Band and similar commercial TV control technologies, and hybrid RF/IPTV architectures.

In addition to supporting legacy platforms, the Systems and Solutions Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams to assess existing environments, resolve complex technical issues, and guide practical evolution toward IPTV, digital signage, and modern AV solutions when appropriate. This position acts as a primary technical escalation point, providing advanced troubleshooting, documentation, and system lifecycle ownership, including limited after-hours support for mission-critical client issues.

By combining deep legacy AV expertise with strong problem-solving skills and real-world operational judgment, this role ensures continuity, stability, and long-term value for MDM's most complex and mature client environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support and troubleshoot legacy video distribution systems including RF coax-based architectures, headend equipment, modulators, combiners, amplifiers, and signal conditioning hardware.
  • Provide technical ownership and lifecycle support for legacy hospitality and healthcare TV systems, including RF, QAM, and hybrid RF/IPTV environments.
  • Configure, deploy, and support Z-Band and similar commercial TV control technologies, including frequency planning, interference mitigation, and system validation.
  • Serve as the primary escalation resource for complex issues involving legacy AV infrastructure, signal degradation, compatibility challenges, and mixed-technology deployments.
  • Assess existing client environments to determine upgrade paths from legacy RF and Z-Band systems to IPTV or hybrid architectures, balancing cost, risk, and operational impact.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for legacy system designs, standards, troubleshooting procedures, and migration strategies.
  • Participate in an after-hours support rotation and respond to critical escalations involving live video distribution, legacy RF/Z-Band systems, and mission-critical client deployments.
  • Collaborate with field technicians, integrators, and manufacturers to ensure proper installation, commissioning, and long-term performance of legacy and hybrid AV systems.
  • Support retrofit and expansion projects where legacy RF systems must be preserved, extended, or integrated with modern IPTV and digital signage platforms.
  • Collaborate with MDM subject matter experts to expand technical knowledge and deliver innovative solutions.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Networking, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Required: Experience working in hospital settings
  • Preferred: Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting legacy commercial AV systems, including RF distribution, coaxial infrastructure, headend equipment, and signal management components.
  • Preferred: Practical knowledge of Z-Band or comparable commercial TV control technologies, including configuration, diagnostic testing, and issue resolution.
  • Preferred: Experience working in hybrid environments that combine legacy RF/QAM systems with IPTV, digital signage, or AVoIP solutions.
  • Preferred: Proven ability to diagnose signal quality issues such as interference, attenuation, ghosting, and channel mapping conflicts in RF-based systems.
  • Preferred: Experience working with DirecTV head ends and distribution.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Strategic thinker with expertise in technology planning and execution.
  • Collaborative team player, skilled at building relationships across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with professionalism and empathy.
  • Analytical problem-solver, adept at evaluating options and making informed decisions.
  • Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software applications.
