One of our flagship contracts is with the Ministry of Defence at a major base near Watford - a complex, high-profile environment where we provide a full range of hard, soft, and technical FM services. 


We are currently looking for a Structured Cablin Technician (CIS) (2 year FTC) to join the Communication & Information Systems (CIS) Infrastructure team, where you will undertake the safe operation, maintenance and repair of all CIS elements at Northwood HQ. Including but not limited to, repair and installation of data/telecoms equipment and infrastructure, desk moves, electrical power upgrades.

As the Structured Cabling Engineer, you will:

  • Perform planned preventative maintenance, statutory compliance tasks and reactive works investigations/repairs on all CIS elements of installations, infrastructure, equipment and any associated power systems
  • Install, test and commission data network devices including media converters and in house supplied hardware
  • Install, test and commission all CIS electrical elements as required
  • Install, test and commission IPTV systems
  • Install, terminate and test a variety of fibre optic and copper data cabling
  • Investigate, diagnose and rectify faults with CIS passive infrastructure and Skanska supported IPTV and AV equipment and systems
  • Liaise / assist with other services and departments as necessary for the efficient delivery of work activities, workmanship and productivity to comply with the required standards
  • Undertake the lift and shift of office furniture in line with project scopes to assist with office moves
  • Use provided test and monitoring equipment for the purpose of maintaining AV, VTC, IPTV, data networks and Skanska systems operational performance and to aid fault diagnostics and repair
  • Provide support to the site wide data cabling and infrastructure for Building Services, BMS, Security, Fire, PA and other fibre/copper-based networks
  • Participate in the CIS On-call rota as and when requested by Line Management


We are looking for:

  • Experience in a similar role on a MOD or data centre, critical environment site
  • Experience of AV, VTC and IPTV systems
  • Experience of the installation, test and commissioning of media converters and other data network hardware
  • Excellent team working and problem-solving capabilities
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DV Government Security Clearance
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a teamDesirable:
  • Hold a current Government Security Clearance at DV level is desirable.
