Job description

Who is SUCCESS?
SUCCESS Enterprises is a leading provider of personal and professional development content, dedicated to empowering individuals and businesses to achieve their fullest potential. With a rich 127-year history, we offer a wide range of resources, including digital magazines, podcasts, workshops, and membership programs. We are doing big things, come join us!
What you will do:
The Editor-in-Chief of SUCCESS magazine leads the editorial, creative, and strategic direction of one of the most recognized brands in personal and professional development.
This is a reimagined Editor-in-Chief role-designed for a lean, high-performance, AI-assisted environment. The Editor-in-Chief serves as both editorial visionary and hands-on operator, responsible for shaping the voice of SUCCESS, determining what stories are told, and ensuring each issue is executed with excellence across print and digital platforms.
Operating within a small, high-impact team, this role requires a "player-coach" mindset. The Editor-in-Chief works directly in the content-writing, editing, guiding contributors, and collaborating cross-functionally-while also owning an AI-assisted editorial workflow that increases speed, efficiency, and output quality.
Success in this role requires strong editorial judgment, operational discipline, comfort with modern AI tools, and the ability to lead without relying on large in-house teams.
How you will make an impact:
Editorial Leadership & Content Strategy
  • Define and execute the editorial vision for SUCCESS magazine and SUCCESS.com
  • Lead planning for six annual print issues, including themes, features, and story selection
  • Lead the editorial calendar planning, ensuring timely, high-quality content across print, web, email, and social media platforms.
  • Oversee writing, editing, fact-checking, and proofreading to maintain consistent voice, tone, and journalistic integrity.
  • Direct special issues, cover stories, and long-form feature content involving high-profile individuals and global thought leaders.
  • Personally contribute to high-impact editorial work, including writing feature stories and shaping marquee content.
  • Ensure each issue delivers a cohesive editorial narrative and reader experience from cover to close.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the SUCCESS audience and ensure all content resonates with and serves that audience

AI-Assisted Editorial Workflow & Production
  • Own and optimize an AI-assisted editorial pipeline (research → draft → edit → publish)
  • Integrate AI tools into content development, research, editing, and production workflows
  • Use AI to improve speed, scalability, and consistency without compromising editorial quality
  • Manage the editorial calendar and ensure all issues are delivered on time
  • Partner with design and production teams through layout, proofing, and final delivery
  • Review and approve final layouts and proofs prior to publication

Content Development & Contributor Management
  • Assign, manage, and develop freelance writers, contributors, and columnists
  • Shape stories from initial concept through final edit
  • Provide clear editorial direction and high-level feedback on features and profiles
  • Build and maintain a strong contributor network, including writers, publicists, and interview subjects
  • Ensure all content meets SUCCESS editorial standards and is publication-ready

Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Operate effectively within a lean, highly collaborative team environment
  • Build and manage relationships with writers, columnists, interview subjects, and PR contacts
  • Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and mutual respect
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to align editorial content with broader brand priorities

Print & Digital Production Oversight
  • Manage the full-cycle production of SUCCESS magazine, from concept development to design, printing, and distribution.
  • Oversee editorial and production schedules to ensure seamless execution and on-time delivery of each issue.
  • Supervise content migration and optimization across digital channels, including the website, newsletters, and mobile apps.
  • 6. Brand Development & Platform Integration
  • Align editorial strategy with broader company goals, including audience growth and monetization
  • Ensure seamless integration of magazine content across SUCCESS.com, newsletters, social media, and events
  • Contribute to the evolution of SUCCESS as a leading platform in personal development
  • Identify opportunities for content expansion, partnerships, and brand differentiation
  • Align editorial initiatives with brand and revenue objectives, including partnerships and special projects.

Media Presence & Talent Engagement
  • Serve as a public-facing ambassador for SUCCESS at events, media appearances, and interviews
  • Conduct interviews and represent the brand on-camera when appropriate
  • Build relationships with high-level talent, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders
  • Leverage network and industry presence to elevate editorial opportunities
  • How you will grab our attention:
  • Proven editorial leadership at a senior level within media, publishing, or lifestyle brands.
  • Strong background in magazine production, long-form editorial, and print/digital publishing
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a lean, high-output environment
  • Experience managing freelance contributors and editorial pipelines
  • Proficiency or strong comfort with AI tools for content development, research, and workflow optimization
  • Strong editorial judgment and ability to make high-quality decisions quickly
  • Experience with editorial calendars, production cycles, and cross-functional collaboration
  • On-camera presence and media experience preferred

Key Attributes:
  • Hands-on operator who leads by doing, not delegating
  • AI-forward thinker who embraces technology to enhance editorial output
  • Transparent, direct communicator who builds trust within a small team
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to pivot quickly
  • Highly collaborative, with respect for team expertise
  • Audience-centric, with a deep commitment to content quality and relevance
  • Connector of people and ideas, comfortable representing the brand publicly
  • High standards for execution, with the ability to balance speed and excellence
  • Strong business acumen, capable of aligning editorial excellence with strategic goals.

If you think you'd make a great match for this position but don't meet all the requirements, we would still encourage you to apply!
What SUCCESS provides:
  • Work from Anywhere
  • Flexible Time Off for Salaried Employees
  • 401k with 4% match (immediate vesting)
  • Robust Medical, Dental, & Vision benefits
  • Company provided equipment
  • Monthly Technology Stipend
  • FSA & HSA with employer contributions
  • Health & Wellness incentives
  • 100% Paid Parental Leave
