Job description

A well-regarded civil litigation defense firm in Chicago, Illinois is seeking a Senior Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney.


This firm has built its reputation on exceptional defense work with a primary focus on workers' compensation. You'll be joining a team that is serious about its craft and committed to delivering results for its clients — insurers, self-insureds, and employers across Illinois.


Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a caseload of Illinois workers' compensation defense matters from inception through resolution
  • Represent clients at arbitrations, hearings, and appeals before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission
  • Draft and argue motions, conduct depositions, and manage all aspects of written discovery
  • Develop and execute case strategy in collaboration with clients and senior attorneys
  • Advise employer and insurer clients on risk management, exposure, and litigation strategy
  • Mentor and supervise junior attorneys and support staff
  • Maintain strong client relationships through proactive communication and regular case updates


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active Illinois Bar membership in good standing
  • 5+ years of workers' compensation defense experience in Illinois
  • Solid working knowledge of the Illinois Workers' Compensation Act and IWCC practice and procedure
  • Experience at arbitration and before the Illinois Workers' Compensation Commission
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills
  • Ability to manage a high-volume caseload with minimal supervision
  • Illinois workers' compensation arbitrator certification a plus


What We Offer

The annual salary for this position is between $150,000 and $250,000. Factors which may affect pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
