The Role
As an intern, you will gain experience in the construction process of new homes at a Shea Homes community. This opportunity will provide exposure to a variety of stages in the construction process such as site and concrete work, framing, rough mechanicals, finishes, budgeting and scheduling. You will also be exposed to our Customer Service department, which works alongside the Construction team and with our customers after they close on their new home.
During the internship, you will collaborate with Shea Homes field Construction and Customer Service staff, leadership and Trades to gain a deep understanding of the different stages that are required for successful new home construction and delivery to the customer. There will also be planned touch points with other critical facets of the business, including sales, purchasing and land development.
Shea Homes has a deep commitment to safety. To this end, you will learn about our workplace safety culture, how to recognize and reinforce best safety practices and gain a comprehensive understanding of different safety laws and regulations pertaining to the site of your internship.
Your Qualifications
Qualified candidates are ideally enrolled in an undergraduate Construction Management, Engineering, Real Estate Development or related program. Prior construction-related internships or work experience is beneficial, but not required.
The ideal candidate would have:
  • The desire to expand their base knowledge of new home construction and gain exposure to new areas of the business
  • The ability to quickly pick up new skills
  • Proficiency with various technology (computer, tablet, MS suite)
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
