About JerseySTEM
All JerseySTEM roles are pro-bono (unpaid) positions.
JerseySTEM is a mission-driven professional network of pro-bono contributors dedicated to improving access to STEM education and career pathways for underserved middle school girls in New Jersey.
Members contribute their professional skills and leverage their networks in service of the organization's gender-equity agenda.
Membership is a minimum six-month commitment of approximately six flexible hours per week and includes a $100 refundable deposit, returned after six months of active membership. K-12 educators, retirees, veterans, interns, and students are exempt from the deposit.
Overview
This is a pro-bono volunteer position.
JerseySTEM is seeking dedicated individuals to contribute their time and expertise as long-term engagements to support our mission of providing STEM education to underrepresented middle school girls.
The Deputy Head of Curriculum Development and Training in the PODS (PrOgram DeSign) department assists in providing leadership, guidance, and planning to create and refine curriculum that aligns with JerseySTEM's mission. They play a key role in supporting College Students who volunteer as Program Instructors to deliver engaging STEM curricula to middle school girls.
Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with the Curriculum Development and Program Instructors Training team, assisting in overseeing subject-specific teams (e.g., Coding, Lab sciences, Engineering, etc.).
  • Assist in hiring and onboarding new team members in coordination with the Human Capital (HUCA) department.
  • Support the continuous improvement of JerseySTEM's Curriculum Design and Outreach Program implementation.
  • Work with College Engagement to ensure the alignment of volunteer College students and the curriculum they will deliver.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Engagement to align curriculum with the interests of corporate sponsors.
  • Represent PODS at Leadership Team meetings and contribute to budgeting, planning, and reporting activities.
  • Contribute to strategic growth planning in collaboration with other JerseySTEM leadership.
  • Coordinate with Marketing to ensure support for relevant initiatives.
  • Participate in strategic discussions within the organization to enhance efficiency.
  • Attend virtual team meetings weekly: (Sundays 9pm EST).

Qualifications
  • Genuine concern about/interest in addressing the STEM education gender gap.
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities.
  • Resourceful with a proactive attitude.
  • Experience with K-12 schools as a parent, former student, or professional.
  • Outreach experience preferred.
  • Experience leading a function (e.g., team, department manager) and managing others.
  • Comfortable working within a virtual environment using digital tools (G-Suite, Slack, Jira, Salesforce).
  • Flexibility for day-time calls with school administrators during the work week is advantageous.

Time Commitment
  • 3-6 Hours weekly
  • 6 months minimum
