Job description

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or Visual Impairments, active Teacher of the Visually Impaired certification and 1+ years Teacher of the Visually Impaired experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Step into an impactful role supporting school communities as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired on a part-time contract basis. You’ll work remotely, collaborating with multiple schools throughout the district. This unique opportunity focuses on building staff expertise, enhancing instructional strategies, and ensuring visually impaired students receive high-quality, consistent support.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with school teams to increase their understanding of student needs related to visual impairments
  • Delivering expert guidance on braille instruction, assistive technology, and strategies for increasing instructional access
  • Providing hands-on coaching and resources to teachers working with students who have more complex needs
  • Supporting the development and implementation of effective practices to ensure consistency district-wide
  • Collaborating with district TVIs to complement and enhance existing services
  • Participating in virtual meetings and maintaining flexible communication with staff at assigned school sites

Ideal candidates bring:

  • Current Florida Educator Certification (required)
  • Experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, preferably with K-12 students in a public school setting
  • Expertise in braille, assistive technology, and instructional accommodations for visual impairments
  • Strong communication and coaching skills to build staff capacity and confidence
  • Ability to effectively engage in a virtual/remote work environment
  • Completion of required fingerprinting; previous fingerprints completed for a Florida school district may be considered valid through the AHCA Clearinghouse

This part-time virtual position spans the full academic year (August 10, 2026 – May 28, 2027), averaging 12-15 hours per week, with more intensive support needed at the start of the school year.
