Job description

*A 4% cost of living adjustment (COLA) is expected effective 7/13/2026 Position Summary Marin Water is seeking a Marketing & Digital Communications Intern to join the District's Communications & Public Affairs team. This temporary, non-benefited position offers hands-on experience developing creative campaigns and digital content that promote customer programs and community initiatives, while also supporting internal communications that strengthen employee engagement. The intern will contribute to internal and community-facing storytelling efforts, helping translate public service work into clear, compelling communications and producing work suitable for a professional portfolio.

About Marin Water Marin Water serves central and southern Marin County, delivering reliable, high-quality drinking water to approximately 191,000 residents. The District manages extensive watershed lands and critical water infrastructure. The Communications & Public Affairs team supports public transparency, customer education, internal communications, and outreach for key District priorities and programs.

Position Details The work schedule is approximately 15-18 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Applications will be accepted until Monday, June 22, 2026, at 11:59 PM. This internship provides meaningful, project-based experience supporting real District initiatives.

Under supervision, the intern may assist with: Creative Content & Digital Communications Draft content for social media, web, and digital platforms Support development of marketing materials for customer programs Assist with visual content, including photography and short-form video Translate technical information into clear, audience-friendly communications Marketing & Outreach Support Assist with promotional efforts for rebate programs and District services Help develop campaign materials such as bill inserts, email content, and graphics Support campaign tracking and outreach coordination Internal Communications Draft internal announcements and employee engagement content Support storytelling highlighting District projects and staff accomplishments Assist with presentation materials and internal messaging initiatives Experience & Qualifications Possession of or the ability to obtain an appropriate California driver's license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles and satisfactory driving record. Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited college or university with coursework in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, graphic design, media studies, digital media, English, or a closely related field OR Equivalent combination of education, training, and demonstrated experience or strong interest in communications, marketing, digital media, or content development Strong written communication skills Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines Basic proficiency with common office and digital tools Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate will demonstrate interest or experience in one or more of the following areas: Social media content development and digital storytelling (e.g., posts, campaigns, short-form video) Visual design or graphic layout for print and digital materials Photography or video content creation Writing for multiple audiences/ platforms (e.g., newsletters, web content, feature stories) Marketing campaign support or brand communications Additional strengths may include: A creative mindset with strong attention to detail Ability to translate complex or technical information into clear, engaging communications Strong organizational and time management skills Professional judgment and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively If you need a reasonable accommodation for any portion of the testing/interview process, please contact Human Resources at (415) 945-1434 at least two weeks prior to the application deadline or examination date.
