Job description

Electro-Hydraulic Technician Internship

Location: Houston, TX 77024
Pay: $19.00–$21.00 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: 40 hours per week
Contract Length: 6 months
Employment Type: Contract-to-hire
Interview Process: Onsite panel or one-on-one interview

We are seeking recent graduates and early-career candidates interested in building hands-on technical skills with a leading organization in the energy industry. This position provides practical experience testing, troubleshooting, assembling, and maintaining mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic equipment.

The assignment may be extended based on performance. Strong performers may also be considered for permanent employment, with the potential for a pay increase upon conversion.

Responsibilities

  • Test, troubleshoot, and assemble mechanical, electrical, electronic, and hydraulic components.
  • Read and interpret electrical, electronic, and hydraulic schematics, symbols, and legends.
  • Follow detailed procedures, drawings, test plans, and verbal instructions.
  • Prepare tools, materials, fixtures, and equipment before beginning work.
  • Assemble, test, install, refurbish, and inspect products according to specifications.
  • Diagnose equipment failures using test equipment, schematics, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Record inspection results, test reports, failed-test reports, and quality documentation.
  • Maintain test equipment and calibration records.
  • Assist with Factory Acceptance Tests, Extended Factory Acceptance Tests, and System Integration Tests.
  • Prepare equipment for shipping and move materials using approved handling equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop.
  • Work independently and collaboratively with technicians and engineers.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical, vocational, military, internship, project, or related hands-on experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through coursework, personal projects, automotive work, woodworking, construction, electrical work, temporary positions, or similar experience.
  • Ability to use measuring devices, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Foundational understanding of electricity, including current, voltage, resistance, conductance, insulation, series circuits, and parallel circuits.
  • Foundational understanding of networking concepts, including:
    • OSI and TCP/IP models
    • Switches, routers, hubs, and modems
    • IP and MAC addresses
    • LAN and WAN environments
    • DHCP
    • IP addressing and subnetting
  • Understanding of ohmmeters, wire resistance, wire sizing, and crosstalk.
  • Ability to interpret hydraulic, electrical, or electronic schematics.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Office applications.
  • Comfortable using an iPad and other computer-based tools.
  • Strong written, verbal, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to complete technical and product-knowledge assessments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training in electronics, electrical wiring, or termination.
  • Exposure to hydraulic and electrical schematics.
  • Familiarity with SAP, TCE, ETU, SmartTool, or similar systems.
  • Ability to identify different types of hoses and fittings.
  • Experience operating or learning to operate hydraulic power units, overhead cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a workshop environment with exposure to noise, heavy equipment, chemicals, temperature changes, and high-pressure systems. The role requires extended periods of standing, frequent computer use, and occasional lifting, pushing, walking, and climbing. Some travel, offshore service work, or extended hours may be required.
