Overview

Herzog Contracting Corp. is now accepting general Internship applications.

All summer 2026 internship positions have been filled.

 

We are currently seeking interns in the following focus areas:

Field Engineers (Nationwide Projects)

Work directly on job sites alongside experienced engineers, gaining hands-on exposure to large-scale rail construction and infrastructure projects. Interns assist with daily operations, project planning, quality control, and field coordination.

Safety (Nationwide Projects)

Join our safety teams in the field to help maintain and support Herzog’s culture of “Safety Without Compromise.” Interns assist with site inspections, safety audits, incident tracking, and training initiatives.

Quality (Nationwide Projects)

Work alongside Quality Managers and Inspectors to ensure Herzog projects meet contract and safety standards. Interns assist with field inspections, overseeing 3rd party material testing, and documentation while learning how to maintain quality on large-scale infrastructure projects.

Estimating (St. Joseph, MO)

Learn how cost estimates are developed for large construction and rail projects. Estimating interns assist in quantity take-offs, bid preparations, vendor coordination, and pricing models.

Accounting (St. Joseph, MO)

Gain experience in financial reporting, budgeting, invoice processing, job costing, and auditing procedures. Accounting interns work alongside professionals in a fast-paced, project-based environment, learning how financial operations support large-scale infrastructure efforts.

Proposals (St. Joseph, MO)

Join the team responsible for crafting compelling business proposals to help Herzog secure new construction and rail projects. Proposal interns will assist with creative writing, layout design, document formatting, and project storytelling in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ideal for students with backgrounds in English, marketing, journalism, or design.

Creative Services (St. Joseph, MO)

Support Herzog’s in-house creative team with graphic design, photography, video editing, branding, and marketing content creation. This is a great fit for students studying marketing, communications, or design.

Research & Development (St. Joseph, MO)

Work in Herzog’s innovation hub helping to test, improve, and develop cutting-edge tools and processes used in the rail industry. R&D interns collaborate on real-world solutions in construction and maintenance technologies.

Software (St. Joseph, MO and Fort Worth, TX)

Join our technology team to work on internal software solutions and applications. This may include programming, system testing, interface design, or data analytics, depending on your skills and interests.

Technical Project Manager (St. Joseph, MO)

Support Herzog’s software development initiatives by bridging technology teams and business needs. Interns assist with project coordination, timelines, and documentation while learning how technical solutions are planned, tracked, and delivered. This role offers exposure to project management tools, cross-team collaboration, and the software development lifecycle.

Energy (Nationwide Projects and St. Joseph, MO)

Interns in this area assist with energy management, power systems, or sustainable infrastructure projects tied to Herzog’s electrification and renewable energy initiatives.

Other Areas (Various Locations)

Internship Program Experience:

Herzog’s internship program is an immersive professional development journey. During the summer select intern groups will be placed into specialized cohorts based on their discipline and paired with an experienced mentor to guide them throughout the summer. These cohorts will follow a structured schedule designed to expose interns to Herzog’s core business competencies, introduce them to our company culture through interactive Town Halls, and enhance their career readiness through soft skill development workshops.

Please note: Not all internship groups will participate in the full program, we are working towards this for future development.
