Job description

The Emergency Response Projects internship program is designed for students interested in maintaining a sustainable environment. The intern will be responsible for assisting the team with planning, organizing, and coordinating daily operations of the service line crew. This role focuses on working with the emergency response team (ERTS) to ensure communication, documentation, and execution of emergency response tasks. Interns can expect to participate in networking events and complete a final presentation at the conclusion of the program. We are searching for a reliable and team-oriented individual with an excellent commitment to safety to join our growing team during the Summer of 2026!

What does it take to work for Clean Harbors?

  •  Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Must be pursuing a bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline, Business Management, Project Management, Emergency Management, etc. and be in their Junior or Senior year.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License and reliable transportation 
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical, by position
  • Ability to perform physical functions per job requirements

  • Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
  • Assist with coordinating spill response activities, working with clients and contractors to support safe and timely cleanups 
  • Help develop scopes of work and support the request for quote (RFQ) process 
  • Track and update project details in internal systems (ALERT) so clients can monitor progress 
  • Support preparation and submission of reports to regulatory agencies 
  • Assist with managing proper waste disposal and reviewing contractor invoices 
  • Help ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Department of Transportation (DOT), and company safety standards 
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to support project updates 
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to emails and calls in a timely manner
  • Support emergency response communications and help relay information to field teams 
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as logging billable time and maintaining accurate records 
  • Attend Networking events within the internship program
  • Complete a final project presentation
  • All other duties as assigned
