Job description

Overview


We are supporting a leading midstream energy company in the Houston area seeking a Cost Analyst to join their Project Controls team. This individual will support capital project delivery by assisting with cost tracking, forecasting, and financial reporting across a portfolio of pipeline and facility projects.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior-level professional (0–3 years of experience) looking to develop within a structured project controls environment.


Key Responsibilities


  • Assist with cost tracking and reporting across multiple capital projects, ensuring accurate and timely updates
  • Support budget monitoring and variance analysis, identifying and escalating potential cost risks
  • Maintain and update project cost reports, forecasts, and financial summaries
  • Assist with invoice verification, accruals, and purchase order tracking
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Construction, and Project Management teams to gather and validate cost data
  • Support monthly cost reporting cycles and preparation of project financial presentations
  • Ensure documentation is maintained in accordance with internal controls and compliance standards


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • 0–3 years of experience in cost analysis, accounting, or project controls (internships considered)
  • Exposure to capital projects, construction, or energy environments preferred
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis)
  • Familiarity with ERP or project controls systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, EcoSys, Primavera P6) is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data accuracy
  • Ability to communicate effectively across cross-functional teams


Preferred Experience


  • Exposure to midstream, oil & gas, or infrastructure projects
  • Understanding of project lifecycles, cost forecasting, and budgeting principles
  • Experience supporting project accounting or cost control functions
