What You'll Do as a Cost Accountant
- Prepare and complete the agency's annual cost study using SQL and other reporting tools to calculate cost per unit of service.
- Maintain allocation and distribution files to ensure accurate cost assignments across programs.
- Compute, analyze, and validate service unit and utilization reports.
- Quantify total employee-related costs, including wages, benefits, and allocations.
- Prepare profitability and cost analysis reports to support budgeting and management decisions.
- Compile and provide financial data and documentation for audits.
- Track inpatient admission activity and related cost data.
- Monitor and oversee private provider payments for accuracy and compliance.
- Monitor Medicaid services to ensure accurate reporting and funding compliance.
- Complete special projects and financial analyses as assigned.
- Provide backup support to the Financial Services Manager, payroll, and accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in cost accounting, financial analysis, or related accounting work.
- Experience preparing cost studies, financial reports, and cost allocations.
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and data analysis tools; SQL experience preferred.
- Strong analytical skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with internal teams and auditors.
- Spanish speakers may qualify for a wage increase
