Repsol is hiring an Aviation Advisor who holds a current Helicopter license to support global Exploration & Production (E&P) operations, to be based in Houston, TX

Business Unit: ESG / E&P
Location: Houston, TX
Schedule: Office-based (hybrid) with significant travel
Travel: Up to ~50% global travel
Reports To: ESG / HSE Leadership

Position Summary

The Aviation Advisor plays a critical role in supporting Repsol's global E&P operations by managing aviation-related risks associated with contractor-operated aircraft and aviation services.

As aviation is classified as a Major Accident Hazard, this role is responsible for ensuring that aviation activities across business units, assets, and projects are conducted safely, in compliance with company standards, and aligned with regulatory and industry requirements.

The Aviation Advisor provides subject matter expertise in aviation risk management, contractor oversight, safety assurance, and aviation safety technical support for logistics and procurement activities. The role partners closely with global business units, HSE teams, and contractors to strengthen aviation safety performance, standardization, and continuous improvement across diverse operating environments.

Success in this role means reducing aviation risk exposure, strengthening contractor oversight, and enabling safe and efficient aviation operations across Repsol's global portfolio.

As this is a global role, operating in Latin America, candidates who are fluent Spanish speakers would be strongly preferred.

Role Focus

Key ResponsibilitiesAviation Contractor Management
  • Classifies Aviation Contracts according to their risk.

  • Defines Technical and HSE requirements to be included in new contracts.

  • Reviews the SoW for aviation service contracts. Participates in the Technical Evaluations of aviation contracts, reviews clauses in proposed contracts and provides information on regulatory background.

  • Follows up, at high level, all Repsol's aviation contractor's safety performance using KPIs.

Aviation Audits
  • Evaluates external aviation consulting services (e.g. parties conducting audits, gap analyses and technical evaluations on behalf of Repsol's entities).
  • Acts as Contract Holder for aviation auditing service companies, and for international Aviation Safety Database services.
  • Performs aviation safety audits of aviation operators.
  • Performs audits and assessments of ground infrastructure such as helipads and air strips.

Aviation Risk Assessments

  • Performs risk assessments of Commercial airlines and maintains the list of unrestricted airlines following Repsol's Commercial airline travel risk management procedures.

  • Maintains Aviation Risk Assessment methodology up to date, considering O&G Industry (IOGP) guidance and latest industry data.

  • Assesses and/or validates the risks of aviation services when they do not comply with Repsol's requirements, explaining and communicating the risk to management.

  • Participates in all Management of Change processes related to aviation, as Subject Matter Expert.

Aviation Incident Management

  • Provides global technical support in incident investigation, risk evaluation, corrective action closure, and training.

  • Evaluates the potentiality of aviation incidents.

  • Participates in all aviation incident investigations as Subject Matter Expert.

  • Identifies and shares Lessons Learned, best practices and synergies between different Business Units.

Assurance and Governance

  • Advisory support on the development of local procedures and technical instructions

  • Conducts assurance activities to assess compliance with Repsol's Aviation Risk Management Procedure.

  • Advocates Repsol's perspective in O&G Industry (IOGP) aviation safety actions and increases Repsol cooperation in global O&G aviation risk management.

  • Keeps up to date with Aviation International standards and is knowledgeable of most relevant aviation safety standards. Participates as needed in international forums such as Vertical Aviation International.

  • Proposes short-term and long-term strategies for improving aviation safety where there is limited offering of aviation contractors, working with contractors and local O&G operators for reaching the desired outcomes.

Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Full U.S. work authorization without restrictions, conditions, or current/future sponsorship.

  • University degree in Aviation, Engineering, or related field

  • Helicopter pilot license required

  • While not required for consideration, Spanish language fluency would be considered a strong asset in the role.

  • Training in aviation accident investigation and human factors

  • 5+ years commercial helicopter pilot

  • 5+ years aviation safety experience, preferably in Safety Management System and Quality Assurance

  • 5+ years Oil & Gas experience including offshore

  • Experience across diverse operating environments and geographies

  • Familiarity with aviation standards (IOGP, BARS, IATA, EASA)

  • HSE field experience, including Operational Safety Assessments, Aviation Ground Infrastructure assessments, maintenance and construction

  • Competent in FDM, HFDM, HUMS, LOFT programs for onshore and offshore activity
