Position Title: Accountant / BookkeeperReports To: Executive Pastor / Senior Pastor / CFO

Employment Type: Full-Time or Part-Time (Based on Need)

Location: On-Site


Position Summary

Brown Missionary Baptist Church is seeking a detail-oriented and trustworthy Accountant/Bookkeeper with knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) to oversee the church’s financial recordkeeping and reporting. This position plays a vital role in ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and accountability in support of the church’s mission and ministry.

We welcome applications from recent graduates with strong academic preparation in accounting who are eager to grow professionally in a ministry-centered environment.


Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management amp; Recordkeeping
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts in accordance with GAAP

  • Record all financial transactions accurately and timely

  • Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations

  • Maintain supporting documentation for all receipts and expenditures

  • Ensure strong internal controls are in place

Fund Accounting amp; Contributions
  • Manage designated and restricted funds in accordance with nonprofit/church accounting standards

  • Ensure proper tracking of ministry-specific budgets and accounts

Accounts Payable amp; Receivable
  • Process vendor invoices and payments in a timely manner

  • Maintain accurate records of payables and receivables

  • Monitor outstanding balances and follow up as needed

Financial Reporting amp; Budget Support
  • Prepare monthly financial statements for church leadership and Finance Committee

  • Assist in preparing annual operating budgets

  • Provide financial reports for board meetings and congregational meetings

  • Support annual audit or financial review process


QualificationsRequired
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field (recent graduates encouraged to apply)

  • Working knowledge of GAAP

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • High level of integrity, discretion, and ethical standards

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

Preferred
  • Internship or entry-level accounting experience

  • Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, ACS, Shelby, or similar church/nonprofit systems)

  • Experience in nonprofit or church accounting

  • Understanding of fund accounting principles
