Possessing subject matter expertise and engaging in ongoing professional development. Maintaining effective communication within the College and the department or program.

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will develop, prepare and teach EMS coursework focused on training within a laboratory setting. Course offerings may be taught during the day or evening and candidates are expected to have the flexibility to teach at different times throughout the academic year.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan, organize, and deliver instruction in didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Support and promote the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and service.
  • Collaborate with Director of EMS Programs, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum to cultivate the mastery of course content.
  • Strictly honor the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Provide students with frequent, timely assessment of and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately document student progress and maintain records including attendance, grading and student learning outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Academic Lab Manager, EMS Programs

Qualifications

Required:An Associate's degree, or higher from a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) accredited institution with an active certification as a Paramedic in the State of Florida, four (4) years of field level provider experience within the pre-hospital environment and Instructor Qualifications as indicated inFlorida Administrative Code 64J-1.0201are required.

Additional Requirements:Instructor Certification in each of the following areas is necessary within six (6) months of employment: Basic Life Support (BLS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); and either International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), or Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS). A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:Candidates with teaching experience and the ability to incorporate appropriate instructional technology into coursework are preferred.

General Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Adjunct Assistant must have the ability to deliver a high level of interactive customer service, develop and maintain collaborative relationships throughout the organization, communicate effectively and possess proficient computer skills, including familiarity with the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications. The successful applicant must be willing to work a flexible schedule at multiple sites, as well as demonstrate the ability to work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
