Position Title: DCE Emergency Response Information Technology, Emerging Talent Intern
Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Graduate)
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
The Division of Car Equipment's (DCE) Emergency Response Unit responds to incidents involving the Subway Car fleet, Emergency Response personnel are strategically located at various locations in the Subway system to ensure a rapid response to incidents.
The intern will support Information Technology and Computer Science Engineering projects by assisting with application development, data management, dashboard creation, workflow automation, and system documentation. They will work with tools such as Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, Power BI, Dataverse, project plan, MS access, office 365, SQL, Azure cloud, and related technologies to help improve operational efficiency, reporting, and digital transformation initiatives. The intern will also assist with troubleshooting, testing, user support, and preparing technical documentation for ongoing IT projects.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support and maintain the DCE-ERU Timekeeping App for daily RCI and supervisor sign-in/sign-out records, including testing, troubleshooting, and SharePoint data verification.
  • Assist with RCI Room Inspection Forms, including form testing, data validation, report review, and ensuring inspection records are properly posted to SharePoint.
  • Support Material Receipt Forms by helping ensure daily material receipt data is submitted, tracked, and posted correctly to the SharePoint site.
  • Perform field IT support for Emergency Response operations by assisting with computer, laptop, CPU, monitor, printer, network, and login issues at different stations, yards, and facilities across New York City.
  • Assist with troubleshooting handheld devices, barcode scanners, tablets, mobile devices, and other field technology used by employees for inspections, reporting, material tracking, and emergency response activities.
  • Support engineering-related technology issues, including HVAC monitoring devices, temperature tracking equipment, train-car data collection tools, and related computer-connected hardware.
  • Monitor and help maintain Power Automate workflows used for notifications, approvals, PDF generation, Excel exports, SharePoint updates, and daily operational reporting.
  • Assist with database backup, data quality checks, Power BI/dashboard reporting, user support, and technical documentation for Power Apps, SharePoint forms, workflows.

PROJECTS:
  • DCE-ERU Timekeeping App: Support and maintain the Power Apps-based daily sign-in/sign-out application for RCIs and supervisors, including testing, data validation, SharePoint list updates, and user support.
  • RCI Room Inspection Forms, Material Receipt and other Dashboards related to Forms: Assist with maintaining digital RCI room inspection forms, ensuring submitted inspection data is posted correctly to SharePoint, and supporting report generation.
  • Power Automate Workflow Maintenance: Monitor, test, and troubleshoot Power Automate flows used for notifications, approvals, PDF generation, Excel exports, and SharePoint updates.
  • Provide support for database backups and data quality tasks, including the daily 'rule of the day' update and posting data to the SharePoint site. Assist with routine database and SharePoint list backup procedures, verify data accuracy, remove duplicates or missing records, and maintain all related backup documentation

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA
  • Major(s) Preferred: Information Technology or Computer Science Engineering, or related field.
