Job description

About the Company
General Matter enriches uranium.
We are designing, building, and operating the world's lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.
In the process, we are restoring America's ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.
Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume. Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way.
Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable. We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.
We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.
Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.
We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.
Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.
About This Role
As a Supply Chain Intern at General Matter, you will support procurement, sourcing, and supply chain operations for the development and production of our uranium enrichment technology and facilities. Working alongside our supply chain team, you will contribute to real projects involving supplier sourcing, purchasing, material planning, cost analysis, and supplier management while gaining hands-on experience across the full supply chain lifecycle.
You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and finance to help source the mechanical, electrical, and specialty hardware needed to keep development and production on track. You will have the opportunity to communicate directly with suppliers, support RFQs and purchasing activities, analyze supply chain data, and help solve material and sourcing challenges in a fast-paced hardware environment.
Responsibilities
  • Support the sourcing and qualification of suppliers for mechanical, electrical, and specialty hardware components.
  • Work with suppliers to gather information on pricing, lead times, availability, manufacturing capabilities, and technical requirements.
  • Support purchasing and material planning activities to ensure components are available when needed for engineering and manufacturing builds.
  • Assist with supplier performance tracking across delivery, quality, cost, and responsiveness.
  • Conduct sourcing and market research to identify potential suppliers and alternatives for critical or difficult-to-source components.
  • Analyze supply chain and procurement data to identify opportunities to improve cost, lead time, material availability, and operational efficiency.
  • Support inventory management, procurement documentation, supplier onboarding, and other supply chain processes.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, operations, and finance to support hardware development and production schedules.

Basic Qualifications
  • Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • Interest in supply chain, procurement, sourcing, manufacturing, or hardware operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work through ambiguous problems.
  • Comfortable working with data and spreadsheets to organize information, perform analysis, and make informed decisions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to build relationships with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Eagerness to learn, take ownership, and contribute wherever needed.

Bonus Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience through internships, research, Formula SAE, robotics, engineering clubs, or personal projects.
  • Previous internship, project, or hands-on experience in supply chain, procurement, sourcing, manufacturing, operations, or engineering.
  • Experience purchasing or sourcing components, materials, or equipment for an engineering team, student organization, research project, or other hardware program.
  • Familiarity with mechanical and/or electrical components and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience reading engineering drawings, BOMs, part specifications, or other technical documentation.
  • Experience communicating with suppliers, requesting quotes, comparing bids, or negotiating pricing and lead times.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary.
