What is an intern program?

An intern program is a structured opportunity offered by organizations for students or recent graduates to gain practical work experience in a professional setting. These programs typically last a few months and are designed to help participants develop relevant skills, network with professionals, and explore potential career paths. Internships can be paid or unpaid and often include mentorship, training, and hands-on projects. Completing an intern program can enhance a resume and improve job prospects after graduation.

What types of projects and responsibilities can I expect as an intern in an intern program?

As an intern in a structured Intern Program, you can expect to work on a variety of entry-level projects that contribute to the team's goals, such as assisting with data analysis, preparing reports, or participating in brainstorming sessions. Interns often collaborate closely with mentors and team members, attend regular meetings, and may be assigned independent tasks with clear guidance. These programs are designed to provide hands-on experience, foster networking opportunities, and help interns develop professional skills that are valuable for future full-time roles.

Sylvamo, with $4 billion in revenue, is headquartered in Memphis, TN.  We are a global leader in the uncoated free sheet paper market that provides sustainable solutions to meet the needs of businesses and customers worldwide. Sylvamo employs approximately 6,500 employees worldwide with manufacturing operations in North America, Latin America, and Europe.  As Sylvamo strives to be the Employer, Supplier and Investment of Choice, we are looking for the next generation of HR talent and future HR leaders to enable Sylvamo as the legendary World’s Paper Company.

These positions offer an exciting opportunity for individuals who are passionate about driving change, influencing business results, and delivering exceptional support to their customers and stakeholders. We seek intrinsically motivated, engaged team members with an interest in Human Resources and a desire to gain experience supporting HR functions within a manufacturing company.

Depending on the role, the HR Intern will report directly to either the Mill HR Manager or a Corporate HR Director/COE HR Manager and will partner closely with leaders and employees to support key HR initiatives across employee engagement, talent development, total rewards, and/or operational excellence.

  • Assist with HR records, reporting, and compliance-related activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects that make a real impact on the business.
  • Collaborate with teams across the organization and gain exposure to strategic HR initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Preferred qualification to be actively pursuing a Master’s degree in human resources, or a related field.

We're looking for energetic, curious, and self-motivated students who enjoy working with people, solving problems, and learning in a dynamic environment. This is a great opportunity to make a difference, build your network, and gain valuable experience that will prepare you for a career in Human Resources.
