Job description

Transdev Operations Management Internship

Location: Various Transdev Divisions |Duration: 8 Weeks |Type: Full-Time Internship

About the Program

Transdev is seeking a motivated intern for an immersive, eight-week rotational program designed to build the next generation of transit operations leaders. Working directly alongside senior leadership, general managers, and department heads, the intern will gain hands-on exposure to every facet of running a transportation division, from daily dispatch and safety compliance to maintenance, finance, and business development.

What You'll Do

In the first week, the intern is introduced to the organization through meetings with the Senior Vice President, the local management team, the client, and HR, alongside onboarding essentials like payroll systems, compliance training, and IT setup. From there, the program moves into full immersion in daily operations: shadowing road supervisors, dispatchers, and mechanics; learning how staff schedules, run cuts, and bid shifts are managed; and observing dispatch, reservations, and customer service functions in real time.

By week three, the intern begins taking on more active responsibilities, including participating in dispatch and reservations work, helping open and close the office, and planning an employee engagement event to be executed later in the program. The intern will also gain exposure to organized labor relations, including union contract structure and a mock grievance hearing.

Weeks four and five focus on safety and training, covering classroom instruction, FTA drug and alcohol mandates, accident and incident response procedures, and a hands-on safety blitz that the intern will plan and lead. The intern will also conduct ride checks and road observations independently.

Week six shifts into maintenance and business operations, where the intern learns the preventive maintenance program, work order flow, and parts and tire inventory tracking, then moves into accounting and business development sessions covering P&L review, invoicing, bid modeling, and proposal preparation. This week also culminates in the intern leading the employee engagement event planned earlier in the program.

In the final two weeks, the intern takes on a true leadership role: running a monthly safety meeting, processing payroll at the division level, serving as dispatcher for a day, and ultimately stepping into the general manager's seat for a full day with coaching support. The program concludes with participation in month-end financial reviews, a full divisional audit, and a final debrief with leadership.

Hourly Range-$22.00 to $22.00

What You'll Gain

•Direct experience in workforce supervision and employee relations

•Exposure to regulatory compliance and audit readiness (CHP/DOT, FTA, NTD)

•Hands-on safety program leadership

•Maintenance operations oversight, from PMI programs to vendor management

•Financial literacy in P&L review, invoicing, and bid modeling

•The opportunity to lead real initiatives, not just observe them, culminating in a day as acting General Manager

Ideal Candidate

UC Davis, Unitrans driver/supervisor pursuing a career in transportation, logistics, or operations management who is comfortable with a fast-paced, hands-on learning environment, enjoys cross-functional collaboration, and is ready to take ownership of real projects from day one.
