Job description

As a Retail Banking Intern you will work alongside our Tellers, Bankers, and Branch Managers operating from a Rockland Trust branch. Interns will be trained in the Teller capacity, working directly with our customers to support their banking needs, proactively exploring solutions and offering personalized advice that serves to develop and maintain relationships. Interns will also have an opportunity to complete project work and participate in career building activities over the course of the 8-12 week program. Interested applicants must have completed at least one year of college and be currently enrolled full-time in a college/university degree program.

With a positive, can-do attitude and a genuine desire to work with customers in a caring and empathetic way, you are responsible for providing efficient, effective, and courteous customer service while performing a variety of transactions. You are the friendly face of Rockland Trust, promoting our mission and helping customers navigate the world of banking.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must have completed at least one year of college and be currently enrolled full-time in a college/university degree program
  • Willingness and ability to work within a flexible work week, including weekends as customer needs dictate.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable using technology, including computers, to facilitate the achievement of business goals.
  • Sales and service-oriented personality.
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance.
  • Positive approach to interactions with customers and team members.
  • Ability to work within normal office requirements, with long periods of standing and continuous customer support.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to successfully complete our training program
  • Are responsible to obtain authorization from their college/university in advance to receive credit from their institution.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Candidates should have 1-2 years prior teller experience or cash handling/customer service skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Gain hands on Retail banking experience and build your professional network 
  • Participate in project work over the course of an 8 to 12 week period.
  • Make the first impression to our customers as they enter the branch, warmly greeting them and guiding them to the colleague who can best support their needs.
  • Engage in constant customer support, exhibiting efficient, effective, and courteous customer service in person and via telephone.
  • Serve customers by supplying them with information on the Rockland Trust banking products best suited to their individual needs.
  • Ensure that customers feel cared for as you perform duties that require a high level of accuracy, such as processing deposits, withdrawals, payments, cash checking, and other financial transactions.
  • Make decisions alongside immediate supervisor, which may become more extensive as position gains in knowledge and experience.
  • Work closely with our training team and your branch team to learn about these responsibilities, and to complete Rockland Trust's Teller Training.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
