Summary/Purpose: 

The Commercial Banking Assistant serves as the operational and administrative partner to Commercial Banking Officers and Commercial Loan Officers by supporting the full commercial relationship lifecycle. The position is responsible for coordinating and facilitating loan origination, underwriting support, closing preparation, portfolio administration, and ongoing customer service activities. 
This position plays a critical role in ensuring exceptional customer experience by serving as a primary point of contact for commercial clients while supporting bankers in managing client relationships, growing loan and deposit portfolios, and maintaining sound credit administration practices. 
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: included but not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serve as the primary administrative and operational support partner for assigned Commercial Banking Officers.
  • Assist with relationship management activities, customer follow-up, portfolio maintenance, and preparation of customer correspondence and reports.
  • Support banker productivity by coordinating and tracking customer requests, documentation needs, and outstanding action items.
  • Gather, organize, and input financial information, loan documentation, and other materials required to support commercial credit requests.
  • Prepare and coordinate loan packages, renewals, modifications, and supporting documentation for underwriting and approval.
  • Monitor loan requests throughout the approval process and communicate status updates to lenders and customers.
  • Coordinate commercial loan closings and facilitate communication among borrowers, lenders, attorneys, title companies, appraisers, and other third parties.
  • Order, track, and maintain required due diligence items, including appraisals, title work, environmental reports, insurance documentation, and other closing requirements.
  • Ensure loan documentation is complete, accurate, and properly processed in accordance with bank procedures.
  • Assist Portfolio Manager with ongoing management of commercial loan portfolios with loan renewals, maturity tracking, past due reporting, and other portfolio servicing activities, monitoring loan exceptions, collateral documentation, insurance coverage, financial statement reporting, and covenant compliance as needed. 
  • Maintain complete and organized loan files and ensure information is updated within bank systems.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for commercial customers regarding routine servicing requests, loan inquiries, documentation needs, and account maintenance.
  • Build and maintain positive customer relationships through responsive communication and exceptional service.
  • Facilitate timely resolution of customer requests by coordinating with lenders and internal support teams.
  • Maintain loan documentation and records in accordance with bank policy, regulatory requirements, and sound credit administration practices.
  • Support internal and external audits, loan reviews, examinations, and compliance reviews by providing accurate information and documentation.
  • Assist in identifying and resolving documentation deficiencies, exceptions, and other portfolio risk items.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the bank's commercial deposit, treasury management, and other relationship banking services.
  • Identify customer needs and refer opportunities to the appropriate banking partners.
  • Support the overall commercial banking relationship by assisting with both lending and deposit-related customer service needs.

Education/Experience:

  • 3-5 years of banking experience, with commercial lending, loan operations, credit administration or commercial loan support experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. 
  • Knowledge of commercial lending requirements and documentation. 
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
