Job description

The Director, Business Intelligence & Analytics, is a business minded leader responsible for owning and executing the Enterprise BI & Analytics strategy and roadmap, aligned to the enterprise Data & Analytics strategy set by the 2nd VP. The Director focuses on insights delivery, analytics products, and the self-service operating model that enables business units to make data-driven decisions. This role leads BI and Analytics teams, establishes KPI standards, and drives adoption and literacy within BI use cases to enhance client experience and profitable growth. This is a highly visible leadership role requiring both strategic and tactical skill sets with strong stakeholder influence, product thinking, and analytics storytelling.Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Enterprise BI & Analytics Strategy and Roadmap (50%):

  • Leads the Enterprise BI & Analytics strategy and roadmap (dashboards, analytics products, KPI frameworks, semantic models), ensuring alignment to the enterprise D&A strategy set by the 2nd VP.
  • Owns BI & Analytics budget and planning; contributes inputs to broader D&A financial plans owned by the 2nd VP.
  • Defines BI & Analytics delivery standards (visualization, modeling, semantic layer, usage/quality SLAs) and ensures compliance with enterprise data governance and platform standards owned by Data Engineering and Data Governance.
  • Translates corporate strategy into prioritized BI & Analytics roadmaps and value-focused backlogs in partnership with business leaders.
  • Guides the future direction of BI & Analytics processes, including intake and prioritization, curated/semantic datasets, visualization standards, and BI tools governance in partnership with the platform teams.
  • Delivers actionable insights and analytics products that drive revenue and profitability; measures adoption and business outcomes.
  • Partners with business leaders to define analytics use cases and success metrics; drives change management and adoption of BI solutions.
  • Collaborates with the 2nd VP on data monetization opportunities; focuses Director scope on analytics productization and embedded BI enablement.

BI & Analytics Product Delivery & Embedded Insights (20%):

  • Oversees the analytics function, including data analytics and data science; sets strategic priorities for the function and identifies new business opportunities based on data.
  • Buildsa world-class reporting and insights platform strategy that enables both internal and external customers to operate with a data-driven approach while leveraging self-service capabilities.
  • Oversees the development of our predictive models and machine-learning algorithms.
  • Leverages technical knowledge to help the business develop simple, pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
  • Drives product thinking and iterative delivery with clear acceptance criteria, UX standards, and success measures.
  • Communicate with non-technical business leaders about the impact of complex analysis on key performance indicators (KPIs) of the business. Leads analytics storytelling; institutionalizes KPI definitions, data dictionaries, and enablement assets.
  • Leads embedded analytics strategy and execution with Product and Engineering to enhance digital products.

Self-Service Analytics Operating Model & Governance (15%):

  • Defines and governs curated, certified BI datasets and semantic models; partners with Data Engineering on source-of-truth alignment.
  • Ensures BI artifacts are trusted, documented, and discoverable.
  • Contributesrequirements to data domain owners.
  • Implements BI governance (workspace, certification, RLS, lifecycle) consistent with enterprise data governance.
  • Collaborates with data leaders to establish reusable, trusted datasets that drive self-service adoption.
  • Oversees the BI & Analytics Community of Practice (CoP).

Leadership & People Management (15%):

  • Key leader and owner of the enterprise BI & Analytics program.
  • Acts as a trusted advisor and consultant to guide the development and use of data analytics tools and models, supporting internal and external clients.
  • Provides leadership to matrixed teams to facilitate and manage strategic technology investments based on risk/value through participation on several committees.
  • Leads and influences others (vertically and horizontally) without formal authority.
  • Hires, develops, leads, coaches, empowers, and grows a high-performing Enterprise BI & Analytics team.
  • Builds a culture of measurable impact, continuous improvement, and responsible self-service.
Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications & KSA):
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of related BI & Analytics experience
  • 7+ years leading BI product teams/COE
  • Experience leading product roadmaps and iterative delivery (ex. Agile for BI)
  • 5+ years' experience working with cloud data capabilities and data ecosystems
  • Experience conducting cost-benefit analyses
  • Expertise with enterprise BI platforms (Power BI/Tableau), semantic modeling, data visualization standards, and governance (RLS, certification). Proficiency in SQL; familiarity with Python/R for analytics consumption preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability working with real-time or batch data integrations to integrate data from disparate source systems into data lakes/data warehouses.
  • Demonstrated success in building and leading highly skilled, multi-disciplinary analytics teams.
  • Requires strong business and technical acumen
  • Strong analytical and product management skills required
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with Snowflake, AWS, Informatica, Jira, Alation, dbt, and Microsoft is a plus
  • Strategic mindset with demonstrated experience in implementing data frameworks and driving continuous improvement
  • Previous experience working in a start-up or on product development is a plus
  • Proven ability to complete projects and achieve results in an ambiguous work environment
  • Demonstrated Critical Thinking Skills
  • Ability to work and make decisions independently
  • Familiarity with Object Oriented Analysis, Project Management, Business Analysis Methodology, and the SDLC
  • Experience in the insurance or financial services industry is a plus
