Coast to Coast Legal Aid of South Florida, Inc. (CCLA) established in 2003 is a Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funded, non-profit organization. CCLA provides free civil legal services to low-income and otherwise eligible residents of Broward County and is located in Plantation, Florida, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale.  Our mission is to provide equal justice to underserved communities through quality and innovative free civil legal aid. CCLA provides legal advocacy for individuals in our community, helping thousands of economically disadvantaged residents to gain greater access to justice and much-needed legal assistance to remove barriers to a healthy and stable life. 


CCLA provides legal assistance in the areas of Family Law & Victims of Crime, Economic Advocacy & Community Health (public benefits), and Senior Law for people age 60 and older. At CCLA, we provide quality civil legal representation and equal access to justice, regardless of their income. CCLA's vision is a community where everyone has the legal resources to thrive.


CCLA is currently seeking a hardworking, compassionate full time Intake Paralegal that serves as a first point of contact for potential clients seeking legal assistance at the courthouse. The Courthouse Intake Paralegal interviews and screens applicants seeking legal representation from CCLA. Provides supportive services to the Attorneys and other staff members. Assists with completion of prescreens and applications, interviewing applicants, collecting documents and pleadings, gathering information about the applicants. Comply with all program requirements, including efficient management of pre-screens and applications, completion of client compliance documents, time-keeping requirements, professional development and all mandated trainings. 


The Intake Paralegal works Mondays through Friday at the CCLA satellite intake office located at the Broward County 17th Judicial Circuit Courthouse. (201 SE 6th Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301.)


Position Duties 

  • Greets, meets with, and screens applicants and clients by phone, electronically, and in person.
  • Completing conflict checks, prescreens, and intakes.
  • Determining eligibility for services.
  • Setting up intake appointments and meeting with applicants/clients. 
  • Completing intakes in case management system either by communicating with applicants via telephone, electronically, or in-person.
  • Responsible for answering phone calls and promptly returning phone calls and/or emails.
  • Following up on referrals from all units, organizations, agencies, and online intake applications.
  • Maintains records, case notes and daily timekeeping in CCLA's case management system.
  • Explaining intake/compliance documents.
  • Performs community outreach events in-person and virtually, as well as, on social media, and conducts educational trainings for staff, clients, and community providers, as needed.
  • Compliance with program and grant requirements.
  • Attend mandated trainings and train other staff as needed.
  • Works closely, as part of a team, with all CCLA units.
  • Performs other duties as requested by CCLA Management, Supervisors, or as required by grant(s). 

Position Requirements

  • Associate's degree and/or paralegal certificate preferred. Relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirements. 
  • One to five years of related experience preferred. 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Detail-oriented with strong accuracy skills. 
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently, both independently and under supervision. 
  • Professional demeanor with a strong client-service focus. 
  • Commitment and passion for serving low-income and underserved communities.
