Position: Institutional Equity Salesperson

Company Description

B. Riley Securities provides a full suite of investment banking, corporate finance, advisory, research, and sales and trading services. Investment banking services include initial, secondary and follow-on offerings, institutional private placements, merger and acquisition (M&A) advisory, SPACs, corporate restructuring and recapitalization. B. Riley is nationally recognized and highly ranked for its proprietary small-cap equity research. 

Position Overview

We are seeking a full-time Institutional Equity Salesperson. The Salesperson will be responsible for maintaining knowledge of B Riley research, offerings and services and have a clear understanding of the investment style and needs of clients. They maintain direct contact with Institutional Investors (clients) to, among other responsibilities, facilitate meetings, conference calls, deliver written research, and develop business relationships with assigned institutional accounts Also, the successful candidate must have the capability to generate revenue at levels exceeding goals determined by firm policies, practices, and regulatory requirements. Strong communication skills are necessary as you will be expected to communicate investment ideas to institutional clients and our sales force. The successful candidate must have the ability to multi-task while under pressure and handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner. The right candidate is a self-starter, highly motivated, and can handle multiple tasks while under little supervision. The compensation for this position is commission-based.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and nurture relationships with institutional investors to drive sales of securities and facilitate meetings, conference calls, and delivery of research.
  • Develop a deep understanding of clients' investment styles and needs to provide tailored solutions.
  • Collaborate with the Trading Desk to resolve transaction issues and ensure seamless client experiences.
  • Achieve and exceed revenue targets through proactive client engagement and rigorous calling activity.
  • Stay informed on market trends, client strategies, and competitor activities to identify opportunities.
  • Communicate investment ideas effectively to clients and internal sales teams.
  • Train and mentor junior staff, including sales assistants, and contribute to hiring processes.
  • Provide feedback to management on departmental procedures to enhance efficiency.
  • Adhere to compliance policies and maintain high standards of client service.
Qualifications
  • 6+ years of experience in financial services or sales, with a focus on institutional sales.
  • Series 7 and 63 licenses required.
  • Proven ability to cultivate and maintain strong client relationships through proactive engagement.
  • Strong understanding of institutional sales techniques, financial markets, and processes.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with strong negotiation and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in financial software systems and a willingness to learn new tools.
  • High energy, initiative, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience mentoring or supervising junior staff.
