The Inserter II is assigned to perform post press related packaging tasks in a lead role to support the efficient production operations to achieve and maintain on-time production, product quality standards, low waste, and operational safety.

Work as part of a packaging crew during a designated shift to achieve on-time production performance including product quality and accuracy standards and operational safety.


Responsibilities

Packaging Department Tasks

  • Serve as a lead operator with general material handling duties including positioning pallets and sorting and preparing product for delivery and using post office and other equipment as needed.

  • Stack product from the pressroom and hand inserting as required.

  • Position product with a fork lift.

  • Assist with machine and product setup.

  • Set-up and operate downstream equipment.

  • Mail setup, sorting, bagging and general preparation for post office delivery.

  • Work as part of a team on post-press equipment including inserting machines, joggers, conveyors, stackers, folders, strappers, bottom wrap machines, loaders, printers, address labelers, adhesive advertising applicators, scales, fork trucks, motorized pallet jacks and stitch & trim binding and other post press equipment.

  • Assist with setting up the inserter control programs (Newscom).

  • Act as in-charge operator as needed to direct production activities during a designated shift.

  • Assist with training staff.

  • Perform general packaging maintenance including equipment blowdown, sweeping floors, and pallet & packaging related materials disposal.

Safety

  • Always work in a safe manner, and consistently utilize required safety equipment to promote top-of-mind safety awareness.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Assist in leading safety compliance within the department including accident investigations and follow up.

  • Complete required annual OSHA safety training programs:Lockout/Tag-out, Hazardous Communications, Personal Protective Equipment, Hearing Conservation, Blood Borne Pathogens, Forklift.

  • Ensure all machine safety-guards are installed, functioning properly, and in use.

  • Immediately report all operational concerns, potential safety hazards, injuries and near misses to packaging management and shift supervisor.

Communication

  • Provide timely and accurate information to the shift supervisor.

  • Responsible for communication with other departments as needed, such as dock operations and the pressroom.

  • Immediately report equipment or product issues to shift supervisor.

  • Communicate scheduling needs to supervisors and/or packaging management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Minimum two year’s prior production, packaging, machine operation, or similar related experience required.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations required.

  • English language fluency:Understanding and Speaking.

  • Proven leadership skills required.

  • Self-starter.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and complete tasks on deadline.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Mechanical aptitude.

  • Basic PC skills including Microsoft Office:E-mail, Word and Excel

  • Basic understating of computer networking & electronics.

  • Packaging equipment knowledge is required.
