Job Description

The Director, Information Governance is a leader responsible for driving the strategy, execution, and continuous evolution of NBCUniversal's enterprise Information Governance ("IG") program. This role oversees policies, processes, and technologies governing the lifecycle of company information, including its security, retention, use, and defensible disposition across both digital and physical environments.

Reporting into senior Legal/Privacy leadership and working in close partnership with the Chief Privacy Officer, this position plays a critical role in aligning information governance practices with legal, regulatory, operational, and technology objectives. The Director will lead cross-functional initiatives spanning Legal, Privacy, Cybersecurity, Technology, Compliance, HR, and business units, while ensuring the program remains scalable, audit-ready, and aligned with industry best practices.

Here you can:

Strategic Leadership & Program Ownership

  • Define and execute a forward-looking enterprise information governance strategy, aligned with NBCUniversal's risk, regulatory, and business objectives
  • Own and evolve the Company's records management and retention framework, including policies governing ROT (redundant, obsolete, trivial data)
  • Establish program KPIs, metrics, and reporting mechanisms to measure maturity, risk reduction, and operational effectiveness
  • Provide regular updates and strategic recommendations to senior leadership and key governance forums

Policy, Retention & Regulatory Compliance

  • Lead the development, review, and continuous improvement of information governance policies, standards, and procedures, with emphasis on electronic information
  • Oversee periodic reviews of retention schedules with Legal, Privacy, vendors, and outside counsel to ensure alignment with evolving laws and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA)
  • Ensure defensible disposition practices are consistently applied, including controls to prevent destruction of data subject to legal holds or regulatory obligations
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance to support regulatory inquiries, audits, and investigations

Technology & Digital Transformation

  • Partner with Technology and Cyber Security leadership to embed governance controls into enterprise systems, including M365, Google Workspace, and emerging platforms
  • Evaluate and approve new technologies, tools, and AI-driven solutions for compliance with governance and retention requirements
  • Drive implementation of automation and scalable solutions to improve records classification, declaration, retention, and disposal
  • Lead governance strategy related to emerging technologies, including AI data lifecycle risks and controls

Cross-Functional Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as the senior IG subject matter expert and trusted advisor to Legal, Privacy, Cybersecurity, Technology, Compliance, HR, and business leadership
  • Chair or participate in governance committees, steering groups, and cross-functional working teams
  • Build strong partnerships to ensure IG practices are embedded into business processes, systems, and culture
  • Benchmark industry practices, tools, and operating models to continuously enhance NBCUniversal's IG maturity

Operational Oversight & Risk Management

  • Oversee enterprise-wide execution of records identification, classification, and lifecycle management initiatives
  • Ensure operational effectiveness of ongoing disposition processes across systems and physical records
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with information over-retention, regulatory exposure, and data sprawl

Training, Culture & Change Management

  • Define and lead a comprehensive training and awareness strategy to drive enterprise adoption of IG principles and policies
  • Promote a culture of accountability and compliance through targeted communications and executive engagement
  • Lead change management efforts tied to new systems, policies, and governance initiatives
Qualifications

Here you will:

  • Bachelor's degree required (Information Management, Legal, Business, or related field preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in information governance, records management, eDiscovery, privacy, or information security, including leadership responsibility in a complex, global organization
  • Demonstrated experience building or operating enterprise-scale IG programs in highly regulated environments
  • Solid project and program management expertise

Desired Characteristics:

  • Proven leadership experience managing cross-functional teams and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft 365, Google Vault, and enterprise information governance tooling
  • Ability to define and execute long-term IG strategy aligned with enterprise risk and business priorities
  • Solid knowledge of GRC frameworks, regulatory compliance, and global privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA/CPRA)
  • Experience drafting and implementing enterprise-wide policies, standards, and governance frameworks
  • Familiarity with AI governance, data lifecycle risks, and emerging regulatory trends
  • Experience leading audit responses and regulatory engagements
  • Exceptional executive communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent analytical and strategic problem-solving capabilities with a focus on measurable outcomes and continuous improvement
  • Builds strong partnerships and fosters a culture of governance, accountability, and compliance
  • Translates complex legal and technical concepts into clear, actionable business guidance

This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
