Information Governance Consultant for a high-impact project within its Office of General Counsel and Risk Management team.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior Information Governance, Legal Operations, or Records Management professional who enjoys leading strategic initiatives, improving governance processes, and collaborating across multiple departments. You'll play a key role in strengthening the firm's information governance program while working alongside attorneys, IT, Records, Risk Management, and Compliance professionals.

What You'll Do
As the Information Governance Consultant, you'll help modernize and strengthen the firm's records and information governance program while supporting compliance, operational excellence, and risk management initiatives.
Information Governance & Policy
- Review, develop, and implement information governance policies, procedures, and best practices
- Provide guidance on records retention, document management, and information lifecycle management
- Assist with policy development related to client files, records retention, and information governance
Project Leadership
- Lead cross-functional governance initiatives involving Legal, IT, Records, Compliance, and Risk Management teams
- Drive process improvements and help implement more efficient governance workflows
- Assist with audits and governance reviews to ensure compliance with firm policies and regulatory requirements
Records & Risk Management
- Manage litigation hold processes in collaboration with Professional Responsibility & Risk Management Counsel and Conflicts Attorneys
- Coordinate records requests, matter closures, client file disposition, and records retention activities
- Support compliance with HIPAA, GDPR, and other applicable privacy and information governance requirements
- Assist with vendor contract organization and governance documentation
Technology & Operations
- Partner with IT to improve records management systems and technology solutions
- Generate reports related to records retention, disposition schedules, and governance activities
- Coordinate with Records and Closed Files teams to ensure proper management of physical and electronic records
Leadership & Training
- Supervise and mentor a Senior Legal Records Coordinator
- Educate attorneys and staff on information governance policies and best practices
- Serve as a trusted resource for records management and governance questions across the firm
What We're Looking For
We're seeking an experienced professional who combines strong project management skills with deep knowledge of information governance and records management within a law firm environment.
Qualifications include:
- Five or more years of experience in Information Governance, Legal Operations, Records Management, Project Management, or a related discipline
- Significant law firm experience strongly preferred
- Experience leading cross-functional projects involving legal, technology, compliance, or operations teams
- Knowledge of records retention, information governance, and document management best practices
- Records policy development experience is highly desirable
- Experience working with records management systems and legal technology platforms (Intapp experience is a plus)
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to manage confidential information with sound judgment and discretion
- Experience supervising or mentoring team members is preferred
A law degree is not required. Candidates from legal operations, information governance, records management, compliance, and project management backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
Position Details
Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 9:00 AM-5:30 PM
Hybrid Schedule: Full-time onsite during onboarding, then approximately 2-3 days per week in the office
Duration: Approximately 3 months, with potential for extension
Compensation: $50/hour, depending on experience
