What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an indirect channel manager?

To thrive as an Indirect Channel Manager, you need a strong background in sales, channel management, and business development, often supported by a relevant bachelor's degree. Familiarity with CRM platforms, partner relationship management (PRM) systems, and sales analytics tools is typically required. Outstanding negotiation, relationship-building, and communication skills help foster productive partnerships and drive channel growth. These skills are vital for maximizing revenue through indirect sales channels and ensuring long-term collaboration with partners.

How does an indirect channel manager typically collaborate with partner organizations to achieve sales targets?

An Indirect Channel Manager works closely with external partners, such as resellers, distributors, and agents, to drive sales and expand market reach. This collaboration often involves regular communication to align on strategy, providing training and support, and co-developing marketing initiatives. The manager also monitors partner performance, resolves conflicts, and facilitates resources to help partners succeed. Building strong, mutually beneficial relationships is critical, as success is measured by both sales results and the long-term loyalty of channel partners.

Success in this role requires strong relationship management, strategic thinking, and a passion for helping partners grow their business while delivering exceptional customer outcomes.
Requirements

  • Identify and develop new partnership opportunities that expand market reach and accelerate business growth.
  • Coordinate joint marketing initiatives, sales campaigns, and partner events to generate demand and increase partner engagement.
  • Represent the voice of the partner internally by advocating for partner needs, providing market feedback, and influencing cross-functional priorities.
  • Accurately forecast partner pipeline and revenue while consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Channel Sales, Partner Sales, Alliance Management, or indirect sales within a SaaS or enterprise software company.
  • Demonstrated success managing strategic partner relationships and consistently achieving or exceeding quota.
  • Experience building partner-generated pipeline and driving indirect revenue growth through channel ecosystems.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic business plans with measurable outcomes.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Highly organized with strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable working across global, cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience working for, partnering with, or competing against CX platforms such as Zendesk, Salesforce Service Cloud, ServiceNow, Intercom, Genesys, NICE, or similar solutions is strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of customer support, omnichannel engagement, contact center, automation, or AI-powered customer service solutions.
  • Live in the Eastern Time Zone
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
