What is an independent contractor email marketing specialist?

An Independent Contractor Email Marketing specialist is a self-employed professional who designs, implements, and manages email marketing campaigns for businesses or clients. Unlike in-house employees, they work under contract, often for multiple clients, and are responsible for creating newsletters, promotional emails, and automated campaigns. Their tasks may include writing copy, segmenting email lists, analyzing campaign performance, and ensuring compliance with email marketing regulations. They bring flexibility and specialized expertise to help organizations grow their audience and improve engagement through targeted email communication.

How do independent contractor email marketers typically collaborate with clients and other team members while working remotely?

Independent Contractor Email Marketers often collaborate with clients and teams using digital communication tools such as email, project management platforms, and video conferencing. While they may not be physically present in the office, regular check-ins, strategy sessions, and feedback reviews ensure alignment with brand goals and campaign timelines. Effective communication and proactive reporting are essential, as contractors are expected to manage their own schedules while keeping stakeholders informed of progress and results. Building strong relationships remotely is key to securing repeat business and ongoing projects.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an independent contractor in email marketing, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Independent Contractor in Email Marketing, you need expertise in marketing strategy, copywriting, analytics, and a solid understanding of email marketing best practices. Familiarity with tools like Mailchimp, Constant Contact, HubSpot, and knowledge of CAN-SPAM regulations or relevant certifications are highly beneficial. Strong project management, communication, and client relationship skills help you stand out in this client-driven role. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering effective campaigns, building client trust, and achieving measurable marketing results.

We believe in the power of experiences and are fiercely dedicated to building products that inspire human connections. The Opportunity:

As an Email Marketing Specialist, you will play a critical role in delivering personalized customer experiences that connect fans with the events they love. As a member of the CRM team, you will be responsible for the hands-on execution, optimization, and quality assurance of email, push notification, and in-app messaging campaigns across the customer lifecycle.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both the technical and strategic aspects of CRM marketing. You'll leverage Braze, Liquid templating, customer data, and HTML email development to build dynamic, personalized campaigns that drive engagement, app adoption, repeat purchases, and revenue growth.

As Vivid Seats continues to invest in our CRM and Customer Data Platform capabilities, you'll help scale sophisticated customer journeys, automation programs, and personalization strategies that reach millions of fans across multiple channels.

You will work alongside an experienced cross-functional team and have the opportunity to make a measurable impact on customer engagement and business performance.

How your role contributes to the success of Vivid Seats:

  • Data-fueled personalization: Leverage CRM technology, customer data, and Liquid scripting to create highly personalized email, push, and in-app experiences that increase engagement, repeat purchase behavior, and customer lifetime value.
  • Seamless multi-touch engagement: Build, deploy, and optimize dynamic customer journeys across email, push, and in-app channels, ensuring consistent and relevant experiences throughout the customer lifecycle.
  • Strategic execution: Partner with CRM, Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams to deliver campaigns, automation programs, and personalization initiatives that drive app adoption, customer engagement, and revenue growth.

How your role expectations will progress in the first 30, 90 and 180 days

30 days in:

  • Complete new hire orientation and gain the tools, resources, and context needed to be successful.
  • Learn how ticket marketplaces operate and how CRM contributes to customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and revenue growth.
  • Acclimate to team processes, company objectives, and Vivid Seats values.
  • Leverage existing expertise in Braze and Liquid to support campaign builds, personalization initiatives, and customer journey execution.
  • Become familiar with Vivid Seats' CRM architecture, audience segmentation strategy, and customer lifecycle programs.

90 days in:

  • Independently build, QA, and launch email, push, and in-app campaigns within Braze.
  • Contribute ideas, processes, and technical solutions for campaign efficiency.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Vivid Seats product categories and customer lifecycles.
  • Create and maintain dynamic content experiences using Liquid, customer attributes, catalogs, and behavioral data.
  • Troubleshoot rendering, personalization, segmentation, and campaign execution issues.
  • Prioritize projects while effectively collaborating with stakeholders across the org.

180 days in:

  • Own end-to-end execution of CRM campaigns, including audience configuration, personalization, QA, deployment, and performance analysis.
  • Build and maintain scalable customer journeys, triggered campaigns, and automated lifecycle programs within Braze.
  • Develop reusable content modules and personalization frameworks that improve campaign scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Contribute to promotional planning and lifecycle marketing strategies through a strong understanding of customer behavior and business objectives.
  • Partner with Marketing, Product, Engineering, and Analytics teams to implement new initiatives and enhance customer experiences across channels.

What You'll Bring:

  • 5+ years of experience executing CRM and lifecycle marketing campaigns.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience building, coding and deploying campaigns within Braze.
  • Proficiency with Liquid templates, conditional logic, personalization, and dynamic content.
  • Strong HTML and CSS email development skills with the ability to code, QA, troubleshoot, and modify responsive email templates without engineering support.
  • Experience building and maintaining Canvas journeys, triggered campaigns, audience segmentation, and dynamic messaging experiences within Braze.
  • Must be comfortable writing and editing HTML email code and Liquid logic directly within Braze.
  • Experience leveraging customer data platforms (CDPs) or APIs to support audience segmentation, personalization, and customer journey optimization.
  • Working knowledge of SQL, APIs, webhooks, and relational data structures is a plus.
  • Proven ability to build and deploy highly personalized customer communications at scale.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to leverage campaign performance.
