Job description

Engineer – Zscaler (Temporary Role)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Security Operations Architect/Engineer with deep expertise in Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) to join our team on a temporary basis. This hybrid role requires both architectural-level knowledge and hands-on engineering skills to address complex Zscaler onboarding challenges. The successful candidate will work directly with IT and business teams to resolve access issues, optimize configurations, and ensure a seamless user experience as the organization expands its Zscaler adoption. This is a contract role designed for an expert who can step in immediately, troubleshoot complex problems, and provide both long-term architectural guidance and short-term technical solutions.

Key Responsibilities

· Act as the subject matter expert for Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA) during onboarding and rollout phases.

· Troubleshoot and resolve complex onboarding issues including authentication, policy enforcement, client connector deployment, and connectivity challenges.

· Design and implement Zscaler configurations and integrations with identity (Azure AD, SAML, MFA) and endpoint management solutions (Intune, JAMF).

· Provide architectural recommendations and best practices for Zscaler deployments, while also implementing technical changes directly in the platform.

· Collaborate with Infrastructure, Security Operations, and End User Compute teams to ensure smooth user adoption and minimal business disruption.

· Perform detailed root cause analysis of recurring Zscaler-related incidents and implement sustainable solutions.

· Develop and maintain documentation of Zscaler configurations, onboarding processes, and troubleshooting playbooks.

· Advise leadership and project teams on Zero Trust principles and Zscaler’s role in the enterprise security strategy.

· Provide knowledge transfer and mentoring to internal engineering and support staff.

Required Qualifications

· 5+ years of hands-on experience with Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA).

· Demonstrated ability to resolve Zscaler onboarding and adoption issues in large enterprise environments.

· Strong knowledge of Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) principles.

· Proficiency in integrating Zscaler with identity and access management solutions (Azure AD, Okta, MFA) and endpoint/device management platforms (Intune, JAMF).

· Solid understanding of network protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, VPN) and security fundamentals.

· Proven ability to balance architectural design with hands-on troubleshooting and engineering execution.

· Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, able to interface with both technical teams and business leaders.

Preferred Qualifications

· Zscaler certifications (e.g., ZCCP-IA, ZCCP-PA).

· Experience with other cloud security tools (Netskope, Palo Alto Prisma, Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, AWS VPN).

· Prior experience in temporary/contract roles requiring rapid onboarding and immediate impact.
