Job description

J K Williams LLC is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Safety and Compliance Manager to oversee our over-the-road trucking and end-dump operations. The ideal candidate ensures all fleet operations meet federal motor carrier regulations, manages driver qualifications, oversees our IFTA tax reporting, and maintains an outstanding culture of safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Regulatory Compliance: Manage and enforce all FMCSA rules and regulations, ensuring our fleet remains audit-ready and compliant with federal and state standards.
  • HOS & ELD Management: Oversee and audit Hours of Service (HOS) logs, ensure proper ELD rule compliance, troubleshoot telematics issues, and review roadside inspection data.
  • Driver Recruitment & Onboarding: Lead the hiring and onboarding process for qualified drivers, manage Driver Qualification Files (DQFs), and oversee pre-employment screenings.
  • IFTA/Tax Reporting: Compile, verify, and manage data necessary to process IFTA taxes and relevant heavy vehicle use taxes or operating permits.
  • Safety & Training: Investigate any DOT-recordable accidents or incidents, monitor drug and alcohol testing protocols, and conduct driver safety orientations.
  • Data Administration: Maintain and update all compliance logs, accident registers, and driver records utilizing advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2–5 years of safety and compliance management experience in the trucking/transportation industry.
  • Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of FMCSA, HOS, and ELD mandates.
  • Administrative Skills: Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (must be able to generate reports, track spreadsheets, and audit records).
  • Tax/Permits: Proven experience processing and filing IFTA quarterly taxes, attaining permits for specific states
  • Communication: Ability to successfully interview and evaluate qualified driver applicants and coach existing drivers on safety policies.
