Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Dispatch Supervisor oversees and coordinates the daily operations of the Dispatch Center within the Office of Safety & Security for the Atlanta Public Schools Police Department (APSPD). This position is responsible for supervising dispatch personnel, ensuring efficient and accurate emergency and non-emergency communications, maintaining compliance with applicable laws and standards, and supporting continuous improvement of dispatch operations.
Note: This position requires availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as operational needs dictate.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college and university required
Additional years of equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement



Certifications/Licenses:
Valid State of Georgia Driver's License or proof of equivalent mobility.
Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) Certification (required within 6 months).
Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Dispatch Certification (required within 6 months).
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification (required within 6 months).
Terminal Agency Coordinator Certification (required within 6 months)
Communication Instructor Certification (required within 1 year







Experience:
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in public safety dispatch and/or 911 emergency communications.
At least five (5) years of lead or supervisory experience required.
Experience in K12 education or public sector preferred



ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises daily operations of the Dispatch Center, ensuring efficient and effective communications support.
Directly supervises assigned staff, including scheduling, assigning work, monitoring performance, and administering discipline as needed.
Develops and manages shift schedules to ensure adequate staffing coverage; adjusts schedules as necessary to address operational needs.
Monitors call handling, dispatching activities, and radio communications to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with established protocols.
Coordinates and oversees training, including onboarding, certification, and recertification requirements.
Ensures compliance with GCIC, NCIC, FBI, and other applicable regulatory standards.
Prepares, reviews, and analyzes reports related to dispatch operations, including performance metrics, staffing, and workload trends.
Assists with handling high-priority or complex emergency and non-emergency calls as needed.
Investigates complaints related to dispatch services and recommends corrective actions.
Oversees the maintenance, retention, and security of dispatch records and communications data.
Collaborates with internal departments and external public safety agencies to support coordinated emergency response efforts.
Promotes a culture of professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement within the dispatch unit.
Maintains regular, punctual attendance and availability for on-site operations.
Performs other duties as assigned by leadership.
