Job description

TEACHER I

I.ย ย ย ย GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ย ย ย ย To instruct inmates/probationers/parolees/students in basic educational skills including, but not limited to, reading, arithmetic and writing. ย This to be done either on an individual basis, a group setting, or both.

II.ย ย ย ย ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

(a)ย ย ย ย Responsible for program data and maintenance of student management databases, as well as other data entry functions

(b)ย ย ย ย To instruct inmates/probationers/parolees/students, using various teaching methods, such as lecture and demonstration

(c)ย ย ย ย To administer in-house tests (MAPT, etc.) to determine appropriate grade level, and shall continue to monitor student progress

(d)ย ย ย ย To maintain individual inmate student records and keep supervisor apprised of inmate student needs and progress

(e)ย ย ย ย To be responsible for daily classroom activity

(f)ย ย ย ย To report any potentially dangerous situation in the school area to the School Security Officer

(g)ย ย ย ย To inventory classroom materials needed and submit a report to the supervisor

(h)ย ย ย ย To develop and administer tests, as well as grade tests and examinations

(i)ย ย ย ย Prepare course outlines and objectives according to curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements

(j)ย ย ย ย To use audiovisual aids and other materials to supplement presentations

(k)ย ย ย ย To evaluate, record and report inmate student progress

(l)ย ย ย ย To confer with inmates/probationers/parolees/students and counselors to resolve behavioral and academic problems

(m)ย ย ย ย To maintain discipline in the classroom

(n)ย ย ย ย To participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences and teacher training workshops

(o)ย ย ย ย Select, store, order, issue and inventory classroom equipment, materials and supplies

(p)ย ย ย ย Perform any other educational duties assigned

(q)ย ย ย ย To report for work on time and appropriately attired

(r)ย ย ย ย To maintain regular attendance

ย ย ย ย A. ย Education and Experience:

ย ย ย  Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. ย Preferred: MTEL or ABE licensure.


ย ย  ย B. ย Special Requirements:

ย ย ย ย Must be available to work for night programming

ย ย ย  C. ย Knowledge, Ability and Skill:

ย ย ย ย Collaborates as ย a team member with all staff to foster an environment for improved academic and personal outcomes for every student

ย ย ย ย Attain certification to administer required assessments such as HiSET and GED, both computer based and paper based formats

ย ย ย ย Must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, so others can understand

ย ย ย ย The ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing

ย ย ย ย The ability to listen and to understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences

ย ย ย ย The ability to speak clearly so that it is understandable to a listener

ย ย ย ย The ability to instruct others how to do something

ย ย ย ย The ability to talk to others to effectively convey information

ย ย ย ย Able to use multiple approaches when learning or teaching new things

ย ย ย ย General knowledge of teaching methods

Minimal physical effort demanded when performing functions under typical classroom conditions.

IV.ย ย ย ย SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the direct supervision of the CJSC Program Director and Assistant Program Director who provides instruction and guidance, assigns work, and reviews performance through oral and written reports
