Description of Work
Reporting to the HR Director, the Human Resources Specialist provides professional support for human resources functions at Nebraska Public Media, with a focus on recruitment, hiring, and workforce support. This position coordinates and supports recruitment processes, assists managers with job descriptions, classification, compensation, onboarding, and hiring activities, and helps ensure compliance with applicable University, State, Federal, and organizational requirements. The Human Resources Specialist also supports a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, benefits and payroll processes, performance management, training, compliance reporting, and employee engagement initiatives. The role works closely with managers, employees, University and State HR partners, and organizational leadership to provide responsive, accurate, and consistent HR guidance.
Nebraska Public Media offers a full spectrum of communications services to the citizens of Nebraska. Some of these services include a statewide noncommercial public television network affiliated with PBS; statewide noncommercial public radio network affiliated with NPR; a cutting-edge Digital Media Group; and state-of-the-art audio, video and multimedia production capability delivered via broadcast, satellite, cable, Internet and broadband delivery channels.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus 4 years of related payroll and/or human resources work experience; Additional years of completed relevant education or experience may substitute on a year for year basis.
  • A willingness and demonstrated ability to learn new hardware and software systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in compliance with rules and regulations, including HIPAA guidelines on the disclosure of information.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships within and outside of reporting lines.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of payroll and/or human resources terminology and practices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • PHR or SHRM-CP Certification
  • Experience serving multiple units as part of a service team.
  • Experience conducting training.
  • Experience with SAP or large integrated finance or human resources system.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and guidelines related to business practices.
  • Working knowledge of international hiring policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others.
