Both roles are common in tech and design industries, often requiring similar credentials and remote work setups.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Human Centered Design professional in a remote role, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Human Centered Design professional working remotely, you need expertise in user research, interaction design, and prototyping, typically supported by a background in UX/UI design or a related field. Familiarity with digital design tools like Figma, Sketch, or Adobe XD, as well as experience with usability testing platforms, is crucial. Strong communication, empathy, and collaboration skills help you effectively connect with users and remote teams. These abilities ensure the creation of intuitive, user-friendly solutions that meet real needs, even when working from a distance.

How does a Human Centered Design specialist collaborate with remote teams to ensure user needs are effectively addressed throughout a project?

As a Human Centered Design specialist working remotely, you'll frequently collaborate with cross-functional teams using digital tools like virtual whiteboards, video conferencing, and collaborative prototyping platforms. Clear communication and documentation are essential to keep everyone aligned on user research findings and design decisions. You will often facilitate remote workshops, gather feedback from stakeholders and users, and ensure that user insights are integrated at every stage of the design process. Building rapport and maintaining engagement with distributed teams can be a challenge, but leveraging structured check-ins and asynchronous communication helps to bridge the distance and keep projects user-focused.

What are the 4 stages of HCD?

The four stages of Human Centered Design (HCD) are: Inspiration, where user needs and problems are understood; Ideation, generating ideas and solutions; Prototyping, creating tangible representations of concepts; and Implementation, testing and refining solutions for real-world use. These stages guide designers in creating user-focused products and services.

What is human centered design in a remote work context?

Human centered design (HCD) is an approach to problem-solving and innovation that prioritizes the needs, experiences, and feedback of end users throughout the design process. In a remote work context, HCD professionals use digital tools and virtual collaboration methods to conduct user research, ideation, prototyping, and testing. The goal is to create solutions that are intuitive, accessible, and effective for users, despite the challenges of not working face-to-face. Remote HCD practitioners often leverage video calls, online surveys, and virtual whiteboards to engage stakeholders and gather insights.

Job description

Omada Health is on a mission to bend the curve of chronic disease.
Job overview:
As a Senior Product Designer on Omada's new care programs and innovation team, you will work closely with product managers, engineers, behavioral researchers, and data scientists to explore, design, prototype, test, and iterate on solutions that help people make lasting changes to their health.
You are a human-centered designer at heart. You deeply understand and champion our users, designing thoughtful, elegant, and effective solutions grounded in real human needs. You thrive in ambiguity, especially in 0 to 1 spaces where the problem is not yet defined and the path forward is yours to shape. You bring a strong point of view grounded in user insight, product thinking, and craft.
Our tight-knit team of designers is obsessed with creating delightful, engaging, and inclusive programs for lifelong health, medical care, and behavior change. We combine behavioral psychology, data science, and user insight to create experiences that are intuitive and impactful across a wide range of users.
As a Senior Product Designer, you will...
  • Design human-centered experiences that help people make meaningful, lasting changes to their health.
  • Take on 0 to 1 problems, turning undefined spaces into clear concepts, prototypes, and shipped experiences.
  • Frame and define the right problems to solve, identifying opportunities across the member and care team experience.
  • Drive the design process end-to-end, from concept through validation, prototyping, and final execution, in fast, iterative cycles.
  • Use rapid prototyping to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and make concepts tangible for the team.
  • Deliver consumer-grade experiences across mobile (iOS and Android), with strong visual, interaction, and systems thinking.
  • Partner with product, engineering, clinical, and research teams to shape strategy and drive aligned decisions.
  • Translate business strategy, user needs, and clinical insights into compelling product opportunities and solutions.
  • Contribute to and improve design systems, processes, and team practices.
  • Design and ship human-centered AI experiences.
  • Use AI tools as part of your design workflow to explore ideas, prototype, synthesize research, generate concepts, or accelerate design production.
We'd love to talk more if you have...
  • 6+ years of experience solving complex problems through product design, including 0 to 1 or early-stage product experience where you helped define new products or experiences from the ground up.
  • Experience designing for health, wellness, behavior change, or other complex human-centered domains.
  • A deep commitment to human-centered design, with a track record of grounding decisions in user research and real human needs.
  • Experience designing and shipping high-quality digital products on mobile (iOS and Android).
  • Strong product thinking, with the ability to frame ambiguous problems, define opportunities, and shape product direction.
  • High craft in interaction and visual design, with attention to detail and a strong sense of quality.
  • A strong bias toward making, using prototyping to explore ideas, test hypotheses, and drive decisions.
  • Experience working with and contributing to design systems.
  • Experience designing AI-powered products.
  • Experience using AI tools as part of your design workflow to explore ideas, prototype, and build, such as Figma Make, Claude Code, Cursor, or Lovable.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence decisions across teams.
Bonus points if you have...
  • Experience designing clinical, care delivery, or chronic condition management experiences.
  • Comfort running your own user research, including conducting interviews, synthesizing findings, and turning insights into design decisions.
  • You've worked in a startup setting and operate like a builder: self-driven, biased toward action, and energized by owning problems from discovery through launch.
Our Design Roots
Omada was founded in 2011 out of IDEO, where our founders explored how human-centered design could be applied to chronic health challenges. What began as an internal project grounded in deep user research evolved into a new approach to digital care.
That origin continues to shape how we work today. We place a strong emphasis on understanding real human needs, designing from first principles, and creating experiences that are not only effective, but engaging and thoughtfully crafted.
Design is not a layer at Omada. It is foundational to how we build products, make decisions, and deliver care.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary with generous annual cash bonus
  • Equity grants
  • Remote first work from home culture
  • Flexible Time Off to help you rest, recharge, and connect with loved ones
  • Generous parental leave
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance (and above market employer contributions)
  • 401k retirement savings plan
  • Lifestyle Spending Account (LSA)
  • Mental Health Support Solutions
  • ...and more!

It takes a village to change health care. As we build together toward our mission, we strive to embody the following values in our day-to-day work. We hope these hold meaning for you as well as you consider Omada!
  • Cultivate Trust. We listen closely and we operate with kindness. We provide respectful and candid feedback to each other.
  • Seek Context. We ask to understand and we build connections. We do our research up front to move faster down the road.
  • Act Boldly. We innovate daily to solve problems, improve processes, and find new opportunities for our members and customers.
  • Deliver Results. We reward impact above output. We set a high bar, we're not afraid to fail, and we take pride in our work.
  • Succeed Together. We prioritize Omada's progress above team or individual. We have fun as we get stuff done, and we celebrate together.
  • Remember Why We're Here. We push through the challenges of changing health care because we know the destination is worth it.
