What is an HR professional?

HR professionals, or Human Resources professionals, are responsible for managing an organization's workforce. Their duties typically include recruiting and hiring employees, administering benefits, ensuring compliance with labor laws, handling employee relations, and developing training programs. HR serves as a bridge between management and employees, helping to create a positive work environment. They also play a key role in organizational development and strategic planning regarding personnel.

What are some common challenges HR professionals face when supporting both employees and management, and how can these be managed effectively?

HR professionals often act as a bridge between employees and management, which can present challenges such as balancing organizational goals with employee well-being, handling confidential information, and resolving conflicts impartially. Effective communication, strong problem-solving skills, and maintaining a fair, consistent approach are key to managing these challenges. Building trust with both groups and staying updated on employment laws and best practices also help HR professionals support a positive and compliant workplace.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an HR professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an HR professional, you need a solid understanding of employment law, talent management, and organizational development, often supported by a degree in human resources or a related field. Familiarity with HR information systems (HRIS), payroll software, and certifications like SHRM-CP or PHR is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help HR professionals build trust and foster a positive work environment. These skills ensure compliance, efficient workforce management, and a supportive organizational culture.

The workload, stress levels, and need for strong interpersonal skills can contribute to burnout, especially in high-pressure environments or understaffed teams.

Human Resources (HR) professionals' salaries vary based on experience, location, and industry, but generally, HR managers and directors tend to earn higher salaries compared to entry-level HR roles. Overall, HR can be a well-paying career path with opportunities for advancement and increased compensation.

Since 1999, we've redefined the culinary landscape by blending bold, restaurant-quality cuisine with seamless logistics and immersive design. As Northern California's first certified Green Business caterer, we serve industry leaders across a wide range of high-profile events and venues.

Position Overview

The Human Resources Coordinator plays a key role in supporting company-wide people operations, with a strong focus on full-cycle recruiting. This role will coordinate the applicant tracking system (ATS), source and screen candidates for open positions, schedule interviews, and help ensure a smooth and engaging candidate experience.

In addition to recruiting, this position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on exposure across a broad range of HR functions. You'll have the opportunity to support and build processes related to onboarding, employee support, HRIS data management, benefits administration, and employee engagement.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about recruiting and wants to build a well-rounded HR foundation, gaining practical experience across multiple areas of Human Resources while contributing to and improving people processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Post and manage job openings in the ATS.
  • Source, screen, and interview candidates for full-time, part-time, and seasonal positions.
  • Schedule interviews, coordinate feedback, and manage the job offer process.
  • Manage onboarding, including offer acceptance, HRIS setup, I-9s, and first-day coordination.
  • Conduct new-hire orientation for corporate staff and support onboarding follow-up.
  • Answer employee questions regarding recruiting, HR policies, benefits, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate employee information and records in the HRIS.
  • Assist the HR Manager with benefits administration and other HR tasks as needed.
  • Run reports from the ATS and HRIS and assist with HR data tracking.
  • Support general HR communications and employee initiatives.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of recruiting or HR experience.
  • Experience using an ATS and familiarity with an HRIS such as Paycom, iSolved, ADP, or similar.
  • Experience using Nowsta scheduling software is a plus.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is highly preferred but not required.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and provide excellent candidate and employee support.
  • Hospitality or other fast-paced industry experience is a plus.

Preferred

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Prior experience recruiting in hospitality, food service, or similar fast-paced industries.

Benefits

  • PTO and paid sick time
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Life insurance
  • Flexible schedule
  • Hybrid work environment

Compensation: $65,000-$80,000 per year
