Job description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The substitute is responsible for creating a culture of Achievement, Relationships, and Belonging for every youth within our programs. The substitute will help manage the day-to-day tasks of the afterschool program, by providing students enrolled with supervised care and activities by following the direction and leadership of the on-site coordinator. The program run 2:30pm-6:00pm Monday through Friday.

This job announcement is not intended to be inclusive of all functions, responsibilities and qualifications associated with the position, however, representative of the essential job functions and typical criteria considered necessary to successfully perform the position.


  • Work as an in-ratio staff member at the YMCA Weber/Davis afterschool locations.
  • Provide supervision of youth, ensure a child is never left alone.
  • Ensure the safety of participants by setting and enforcing classroom expectations.
  • Follow all childcare licensing guidelines.
  • Promote the after-school cultures of belonging, relationship, and achievement.
  • Praise student accomplishments.
  • Support literacy and homework in the assistant center during success hour.
  • Work with the site coordinator to ensure all materials are set-up for the day's lessons.
  • Assist the site coordinator in planning family engagement activities, field trips and fun Fridays.
  • Assist the site coordinator in ensuring the classroom space is cleaned and closed at the end of the program.

  • 16 years of age or older.
  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Interest in working with youth.
  • Must Obtain Food Handlers Permit within 30 days of hire.
  • 6 months experience working with behavior management of youth in larger groups preferred but not required.
  • Must be able to obtain and become certified in First Aid, CPR and Food Handlers within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to pass a background check and obtain fingerprint clearance within 10 days of hire.
  • Must Complete Department of Child Care Licensing fingerprinting and background check.
  • Proven track record of developing authentic and deepened relationships with others.
  • Experience with diverse populations, including speaking any language in addition to English, preferred.
