Job description

Job Title:

HR Business Partner, Manager

About Bombas:

Bombas is a comfort focused premium basics brand with a mission to help those in need. The company launched in 2013, after the founders learned that socks are the #1 most requested clothing item at homeless shelters. From there, they set out to solve that problem, donating a pair of socks for every pair they sell. How do you donate a lot of socks? You sell a lot. And how do you sell a lot? You make the most comfortable socks in the history of feet. Millions of pairs sold and donated later, Bombas has continued to innovate within its mission and product, introducing new socks, as well as underwear and t-shirts, the #2 and #3 most requested clothing items at homeless shelters, all while continuing to make a positive impact on the community where we all work and live.

Clickย hereย to see what it's like to work inside the Bombas Hive!

The word Bombas is derived from the Latin word for bumblebees. Bees work together to make their hive a better place. At Bombas, we're inspired by that. We know it's the collective efforts of our team that keeps the Hive alive and strong - a team that is diverse and inclusive. Different perspectives strengthen our ability to make the most comfortable versions of the products people wear closest to their bodies every day and to serve the communities where we all work and live. We are committed to continuously building a Hive where all are welcomed, seen, and heard regardless of age, color, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, genetics, physical or mental ability, protected veteran status race, religion and sexual orientation. As a team, we will strive to create room for different experiences and empower all voices.

Based on the specific needs and job requirements, this role will be working out of our Bombas HQ in New York City.
About the Job:

We're looking for an HR Business Partner, Manager who will be a hands-on HR partner across multiple functions, reporting to the Director of People. This person will sit close to business leaders, understand what their function is trying to achieve, and translate that into people strategy: how teams are structured, performance is managed, talent is developed, and issues are resolved. You'll be the front line for most day-to-day HR partnerships at Bombas - coaching a manager through a hard conversation or digging into headcount data to make a recommendation - across functions that run on different rhythms.ย

What you'll be responsible for:

Strategic Partnership

  • Act as a trusted advisor to leaders across your client groups on org design, team structure, and workforce planning
  • Drive succession planning for key roles within your client groups
  • Help leaders think through the people implications of business decisions (growth, restructuring, new initiatives) before those decisions are finalized

Talent & Performance Management

  • Own performance review execution for your client groups - calibration sessions, manager prep, and helping manage the process in Rippling
  • Guide managers through performance management, from goal-setting to addressing underperformance
  • Support compensation planning cycles (merit, promotions, leveling) in partnership with People Operations

Employee Relations & Culture

  • Independently manage employee relations issues with sound judgment and appropriate documentation
  • Run regular check-ins with teams to stay close to morale and emerging issues rather than finding out after something's already broken
  • Coach managers on how to have direct, fair, and timely conversations with their teams

Organizational Design & Workforce Planning

  • Partner with leaders on org structure changes, including restructures, role changes, and headcount planning
  • Identify when a structural problem is masquerading as a people problem (and vice versa)

Data & Insights

  • Analyze engagement survey results for your client groups and translate findings into action with leaders
  • Use attrition, performance, and other people data to identify patterns and recommend action
What we'll love about you:
  • Enthusiasm for continuous improvement in both documentation and process
  • Complex problem solver who knows when to do systematic and complex thinking versus when to identify shortcuts and find an easy solution
  • Comfort working across both technical and business teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills & comfort with cross-functional persuasion and consensus-building
  • Willing and able to hold other teams accountable for deliverables
  • Ability to run multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Belief in our mission and understand the importance of giving back
  • Comfortable staying focused while working in an open office environment
What you'll love about us:
  • We are a team of smart, interesting, diverse, funny, and loving people.
  • We offer competitive compensation, employer paid health, medical and dental benefits, 401k with match, paid parental leave, snacks, socks and a fun, relaxed office environment.
  • We take the responsibility to make sure you are excited, happy, and find fulfillment in your work very seriously.
  • We value fun. This is why we host office lunches, offsite team outings and company retreats.
  • We believe in giving back to the community and helping those in need, which is why we volunteer as a team regularly.
  • We believe success comes from the collective effort of all, which is why all full-time employees receive equity in the business.
  • We understand the value of health, relaxation, spending time with friends and family, and traveling the world and offer flexible paid time off for all full-time employees.ย This includes over 20 paid company holidays, year-round "Flexible Fridays" and unlimited vacation, sick, and wellness days.
  • We understand the importance of communication and offer a monthly phone stipend for all full-time employees.
  • We believe a healthy body equals a healthy mind, so we offer a $100 monthly wellbeing reimbursement to all full-time employees.
What you'll bring:
  • 4-6+ years of HR Business Partner experience, ideally supporting multiple distinct client groups in a fast-paced, growth-stage environment
  • A track record of building trust with senior business leaders and influencing decisions without formal authority over them
  • Strong judgment on employee relations matters - knowing when to escalate, when to coach, and when to act
  • Comfort moving between functions with different cultures and operating rhythms (creative and brand, product, supply chain, and wholesale don't run the same way) while applying a consistent people philosophy
  • Working knowledge of employment law fundamentals (NY/multi-state a plus)
