Seattle Central College is looking to hire a Recreation and Athletics Specialist 4 in the Mitchell Activity Center
Salary Range for this position is $59,796 to $78, 480 annually (depending on experience).
Opportunity is open until filled, first review of materials will begin August 19 th , 2026.
Position Summary
Under the Director, the Recreation and Athletic Specialist4 will be responsible for planning, organizing, and managing group and/or individual recreation activities that are part of a larger recreational/sports/fitness program at the Mitchell Activity Center (MAC). It contributes in planning and monitoring budgets of programs to help ensure their success; assists in managing operations of the facility; and assists in the organization and maintenance of business, outreach, and assessment coordination through administrative office functions.
This position Directs the work of the Recreation and Specialist2 classified position, part-time MAC student employees, and all part-time professional services staff that teach group exercise classes or provide ancillary services.
This position is full-time, working 40 hours per week 100% on-site. This position is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 4:30PM. The schedule may vary depending on program needs. May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE

What you will be working on:
Recreation Activity Development
- Plans, organizes, and manages sports and recreational activities for diverse populations in coordination with student committees, recreation clubs, and social agencies.
- Manages and coordinates all ancillary such as personal training, or other fitness/sports/recreation programming that requires professional services.
- Manages and coordinates a sports/recreational program system that has component programs such as intramural sports, Esports, or campus game rooms or revenue/non-revenue producing activities.
- Manages and coordinates group exercise class schedule and evaluates performance of group exercise professional staff.
- Works in one or more skill areas, directing, conducting, or instructing in programs that foster leadership development through sports, social activities, or outings.
- Collaborates across departments - particularly with Student Leadership, to design and deliver recreation programming that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of Seattle Central students and MAC members.
- Creates digital and print media (class schedules, program flyers, promotional materials) to communicate offerings and increase student participation
Planning and Monitoring
- Prepares regular verbal and written quarterly progress and adjustment reports that include items such as assessment of facilities, evaluations of programs, and other special studies related to the impact of recreational and sports programming.
- Administers procedures for equipment purchase and inventory; arranges for equipment repairs and maintenance.
- Assists in planning, tracking and administration of operating budgets.
- Stays current on departmental systems, processes, and procedures to ensure effective operations.
Facility Management Assistance
With delegated authority, interviews and recommends applicants for hire, trains new employees, assigns and schedules work, approves leave, conducts annual performance evaluations, and recommends disciplinary actions.
Supervises and coordinates staff and volunteers supporting MAC recreation programs.
Assigns, instructs, and checks the work of hourly MAC employees.
Contributes to a workplace culture of excellence, equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of staff development and MAC programming.
Provides exceptional customer service by responding promptly, professionally, and accurately to all email, phone, and in-person inquiries about the MAC and Seattle Central College.
Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and operational facility by coordinating with custodial, maintenance, and security teams and addressing day-to-day operational needs.
- Contribute to a culture of excellence, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and in all aspects of employee improvement, leadership development, and MAC programming.
Business Coordination
Timesheet approvals for MAC employees and fitness instructors.
Help with producing, processing, and checking all financial documents, including, but not limited to, contracts, credit card charges, and incoming and outgoing invoices.
Maintain, process, and file employment paperwork
Submit and monitor work orders that involve repair, maintenance, and special projects, providing weekly status report to Director
Maintain MAC inventory and order appropriate supplies as needed by MAC staff
- Maintain general records and files for the MAC
Maintains locker systems, renewals, clean-outs, and implements form changes as needed.

What you bring as a candidate: (Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)
Bachelor's degree in recreation, kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, athletic administration, or a closely related field.
4+ years of full-time recreation experience (or 2+ years full-time recreation experience at the graduate level).
One year of administrative experience supporting program or facility operations.
Specialized expertise in fitness and recreation, including leading physical activity programs that increase participation across diverse student groups.
Strong customer-service with the ability to troubleshoot complex operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
Proven interpersonal and supervisory skills, including training and mentoring staff, supporting and building effective working relationships.
Experience designing and delivering culturally responsive, equity-centered programming for underrepresented, marginalized, and vulnerable populations.
Committed to continuous improvement, applying a growth mindset to address operational challenges and taking initiative in ambiguous situations.
