Position Summary:
The Library Delivery Driver reports to the Facilities Manager and is responsible for transporting materials between library branches and partner locations while also supporting basic maintenance and facility upkeep. This role ensures timely, safe delivery of library items and helps maintain a clean, functional environment for staff and patrons.
Key Responsibilities:
Delivery & Logistics Duties:
  • Safely operate a library vehicle to transport books, media, and other materials between branches and designated locations
  • Load and unload bins, carts, and packages, ensuring items are handled with care
  • Follow established delivery routes and schedules, adjusting as needed for efficiency or weather conditions
  • Maintain accurate delivery records and report any discrepancies or delays
  • Perform routine vehicle checks and report maintenance needs

Maintenance & Facilities Support:
  • Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and minor repairs
  • Assist with room setup for events, including moving furniture and equipment
  • Monitor building conditions and report larger repair needs to supervisors
  • Support basic custodial tasks as needed (e.g., clearing walkways, minor cleaning)
  • Help maintain outdoor areas, such as sidewalks and entryways, for safety and accessibility

General Support:
  • Provide courteous and professional interaction with library staff and the public
  • Follow safety procedures and organizational policies at all times
  • Assist with other operational tasks as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Valid chauffeur license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. and perform physical tasks regularly
  • Basic mechanical or maintenance skills preferred
  • Strong time management and reliability
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills

Work Environment:
  • Combination of driving, indoor, and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
  • Frequent lifting, bending, and moving materials
  • May require early mornings or flexible scheduling depending on delivery routes

Preferred Experience:
  • Previous delivery or courier experience
  • Experience with basic facility maintenance or custodial work
  • Familiarity with library operations is a plus

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, sit, bend, twist, stoop, reach and grasp, walk push, pull or lift materials or equipment weighing 75 pounds or more. Ability to use ladders and handcart.
  • Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle's cab as many as 60 times a day or more. Cab floor level is generally 45 to 48 inches above the ground level, with entry and exit achieved with the assistance of various configurations of ramps, steps and handholds; also requires frequent bending, twisting, climbing, squatting, crouching and balancing
  • Must be able to perform frequent pushing or pulling of product weighing up to 250 pounds on a dolly or cart, as well as occasional pushing or pulling of freight weighing up to 90 pounds without a mechanical aid.
  • Must be able to manually lower and raise lift, attach and release safety chains, open and close cargo doors, climb into and out of vehicles and check engine fluid levels.
