Nature of Work
This position involves general cleaning of GRPL facilities with some maintenance requirements as directed by the Facility Manager. All of the work is performed under the general supervision of the Facility Manager. This position requires the ability to travel to various different locations to perform some duties.
This position is regularly scheduled at the with the following schedule:
Monday - Friday: 5:00 am - 1:30 pm
And 1 weekend per month required
Examples of work:
  • Custodial tasks throughout all of GRPL facilities including: Vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, cleaning rest rooms, maintaining hard surface floors and carpeted areas, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash containers, replenishing rest room supplies, maintaining custodial equipment, and setting up/tearing down equipment related to facility use
  • Picking up and delivering, loading and unloading supplies, materials, and equipment; operating vacuum cleaners, buffers, and related cleaning equipment
  • Open buildings at the beginning of shift and closing and securing them when they are the last to leave
  • Picking up litter from GRPL grounds and removing snow from areas not cleared by the snow plows
  • Responsible for assembly of furniture items, painting, minor carpentry, or cement repairs, and minor repairs to mechanical systems of the buildings
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Training and Experience
Required
  • A high school diploma or a GED
  • 5 years of experience in building maintenance and custodial work, including some supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license and vehicle insurance

Other Necessary Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of:
  • Current building cleaning and maintenance practices
  • Safety standards and regulations pertaining to cleaning and maintenance of buildings and grounds
Ability to:
  • Read and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with diverse groups both verbally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers and the public
  • Manage emotions in the workplace and maintain professional composure and judgement
  • Work with supervisor and process feedback regarding job performance
  • Operate such equipment as a vacuum cleaner, buffer, lawn mower, and weed eater
  • Lift objects weighing up to 75 pounds without assistance
  • Report for snow removal on call
  • Access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
