Job description

Description We are seeking a staff member to join us in creating clean, safe and inviting spaces in our Library locations. If you have a keen eye for detail and the desire to keep our building locations looking great - this is the role for you. In this position, you will work independently performing routine cleaning, light maintenance and groundskeeping including some snow removal.

You will also stock and maintain supplies throughout the Library and operate janitorial equipment and hand tools as needed. This position is also responsible for setting up meeting rooms, moving equipment and furniture and other materials as needed. Experience is preferred but not required.

Job Summary: Maintains the appearance of library buildings and keeps building equipment in working order. Includes cleaning, care, and maintenance of library facilities and surrounding grounds. Assists with pick-ups and deliveries to all branches.

Examples of Duties Essential Functions: Performs both general and deep and thorough cleaning of library interiors including restrooms and meeting rooms. Sets up chairs and tables for meeting rooms. Keeps sidewalks, ramps, and emergency exits clear including snow and ice removal.

Performs intense cleaning tasks to sanitize restrooms. Delivers and picks up materials from all branches using library van. Delivers and picks up miscellaneous items as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

Performs minor painting, plumbing, and electrical procedures. Submits supply requests. Sets up for special events and programs offered to the public.

Ensures that any maintenance problems that affect patrons and staff members are handled in a safe and timely manner. Reports any conditions in need of repair to department manager. Assists in training new staff in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Follows library safety and emergency policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of basic building and grounds repair and maintenance practices preferred.

Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English. Competent in the use of Windows-based computer programs. Valid Ohio driver's license and proof of insurance.

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED required. One year of work experience in the care, cleaning, and maintenance of facilities and grounds preferred. Physical and Environmental Conditions: The work environment generally involves risks or discomforts that require safety precautions typical of library buildings.

Work may occur in offices, loading docks, rooftops, crawl space, grounds, etc. Safe workplace practices with equipment, observance of fire regulations, wearing personal productive equipment [PPE], etc., in library buildings that are being built, renovated, or upgraded is required. Extensive mobility: extensive amounts of time spent standing, walking, stretching, bending, pushing moderately heavy carts, lifting weight up to 75 lbs

Manual dexterity sufficient to perform lifting, climbing ladders, moving equipment, and shoveling. Will work in adverse weather conditions. Position requires working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.

Daily local travel by personal or library automobile is required.
