Hours: 40 hours per week I Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM- 4:00 PM, occasional weekends, evenings and overtime may be required depending on workflow I Supervisor: Facilities and Safety Director I Location: Martin Library I Department: YCL – Facilities Classification: Full-Time/Hourly/ Non-Exempt


Under direct supervision of the Facility & Safety Director, the Maintenance Worker performs a wide range of building maintenance, repair and custodial duties at Martin Library and branch locations that helps ensure a safe, clean and well-functioning library environment. At Martin Library, this position would help to set up and break down of rooms for events.

Requirements:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience in facilities, maintenance and custodial services on the job experience; or an equivalent combination of vocational training and work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
  • Experience driving a company van preferred.
  • Experience using computers, email, and work order systems.
  • Experience working with minor electrical and plumbing; including preventative maintenance and repairs.
  • Must obtain clean PA Driving Record, PA Child Abuse Clearance, PA Criminal History Clearance, FBI fingerprint-based Criminal History Clearance, and Mandated Reporter Training Certificate.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proficient verbal, written and communication skills. Must be able to follow written instructions.
  • Knowledge of routine building inspections, preventative maintenance and basic repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of workplace safety practices and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office including Sharepoint.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with staff, vendors, and public.
  • Ability to travel around York County to visit other libraries.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and on occasion up to 75 pounds, including boxes, furniture and equipment safely.
  • Must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions, including leaf and snow removal.
  • Must be able to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, and crouch to reach areas with limited access.
  • Must be able to use a ladder to reach high places to perform tasks on vents, equipment systems, roofing, gutters, etc.
  • Must be able to operate and drive company van to other facilities within York County as needed.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Perform routine inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs of all YCL facilities. Manage the work order system and see that all requests are addressed in a timely manner.
  2. Set up and break down meeting rooms for special events and activities, including moving tables and chairs and carrying boxes, trays of food, and other equipment. On occasion assists with special projects such as moving furniture and helping with installations.
  3. Assists in cleaning YCL library facilities and surrounding areas including sidewalks and entrance areas. This will include sweeping, mopping, dusting, collecting trash, cleaning glass doors and windows, and cleaning bathrooms.
  4. Maintain, troubleshoot, research and assist with maintaining cleaning equipment and replacement parts. Assists with the delivery of packages and large items to various work areas in Martin Library.
  5. Provides back up as driver for interlibrary delivery system when needed and coordinate fleet maintenance. This position will load and unload heavy bags of books, along with the sorting of the books upon arrival.
  6. Assists outside vendors at other libraries locations including all YCL branch libraries.
  7. Monitors and patrols public areas, enforces library policies and rules, and performs day-to-day duties in accordance with the Library’s Statement regarding Respect and Good Conduct.
  8. Handles any unusual disturbance or disruptive individual behavior by speaking directly to the individual concerned; requests that the individual leave the building or facility if necessary; notifies lead staff of any incidents; contacts police if necessary; prepares incident reports; and may appear in court to testify against disruptive individual.
  9. Maintain cleaning supplies through inventory and create purchase orders for supplies, tools, parts etc.
  10. All other duties as assigned.
